In April this year, the memorial hall of the former site of the Central Special Science and Technology Agency was opened. For the first time, the whole process of the venue reproduces the struggle of the Central Special Branch of the Communist Party of China, the first relatively mature intelligence and security agency of the Communist Party of China, in Shanghai. Today, follow Jingbao to trace the footsteps of history and explore the legend of the "Red Fortress".
Central Special Branch
It was an intelligence and security agency established by the Communist Party of China in Shanghai from 1927 to 1935, which was personally established and actually responsible by Zhou Enlai, and later led by Chen Yun, Nie Rongzhen, Chen Geng, Pan Hannian and others.
During the period when the CPC Central Committee was in Shanghai, the Central Special Branch carried out a great deal of fruitful work on the covert front, and made outstanding achievements in safeguarding the security of the central organs and party organizations, waging the struggle against the enemy, punishing traitors and obtaining intelligence, and developing communications and liaison work.
The Central Special Branch became a "red fortress" to defend and serve the Party Central Committee, and also laid a good foundation for the development of the Party's hidden front during the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression and the War of Liberation.
The former site of the Central Special Branch Office is located at No. 14, Lane 930, Wuding Road, Jing'an District, the building is a new-style lane residence, two floors high, with an attic at the top, a mixed brick and wood structure, and clear water red brick masonry. In April 2014, the site was rated as the eighth batch of Shanghai cultural relics protection units.
The exhibition hall of the memorial hall of the former site of the Central Special Branch is divided into six parts: "Preface Hall", "Born for the Party - The Establishment of the Central Special Branch", "Repeated Miraculous Achievements - The Main Achievements of the Central Special Branch", "Gathering of Heroes - Famous Figures of the Central Special Branch", "Special Exhibition Hall of the Main Achievements of the Central Special Branch" and "Concluding Remarks", which systematically introduces the establishment, development, achievements and related figures of the Central Special Branch, and composes an immortal chapter of the hidden front.
