Recently, Apple launched a new TWS earphone Beats Solo Buds, priced at 699 yuan. It features the smallest case in the Beats lineup, up to 18 hours of battery life, custom dual-layer drivers, four sizes of earbud covers (L, M, S, and XS), and four colors (Matte Black, Storm Gray, Aurora Purple, and Crystal Red).
Beats Solo Buds 对比 AirPods 2 的优势
First, cost-effective
For those who want both (Apple ecology) and (value for money), the new Beats Solo Buds are a more affordable option. For example, Apple's official website still sells AirPods 2 at 999 yuan (and is the cheapest AirPods you can buy). The new Beats Solo Buds are only 699 yuan, and they allow you to experience the Apple ecosystem. For example, you can quickly pair with iOS devices with one click when you open the cover, automatically pre-pair across devices, and support "Find My".
Second, sound quality
In terms of sound quality, according to the official introduction, the new Beats Solo Buds are equipped with dual-layer drivers on each earbud, which can minimize micro-distortion across the entire frequency response curve. The drivers are deliberately placed parallel to each acoustic nozzle to deliver sound precisely to the ear canal. In addition, the customized acoustic architecture has been adjusted to highlight the musical expression, resulting in a wider range and clearer sound quality.
While I haven't heard the actual sound performance of the Solo Buds yet, based on the other Beats headphones I've used before, I'm guessing it should sound better than the "plain water" AirPods 2. Of course, this part will have to wait for my final audition before I draw conclusions.
3. Sound insulation and noise reduction
It's important to note that neither the Beats Solo Buds nor the AirPods 2 have active noise cancellation. However, the former comes with four sizes of silicone ear tips (just like the AirPods Pro) that can provide passive noise cancellation. And the AirPods 2, which have a semi-in-ear design and do not have noise cancellation, are more awkward for those who want to use headphones in noisy environments. In this regard, the Beats Solo Buds are undoubtedly the better choice.
Fourth, battery life
There is also a huge difference between the Beats Solo Buds and AirPods 2 when it comes to battery life. For starters, the Beats Solo Buds' built-in battery lasts up to 18 hours. AirPods 2, on the other hand, can be used for up to 5 hours at a time. However, there is a problem to be aware of here.
When the AirPods are about to run out of power, users can put the earbuds back in the charging case to continue charging. The case of the Beats Solo Buds doesn't have a battery, so you have to charge the earbuds after 18 hours of use, or they won't work.
My opinion is that the ability of the Beats Solo Buds to be used for 18 hours straight is undoubtedly a huge advantage. However, the lack of battery in the earphone case is indeed a shortcoming, which I don't quite understand what Apple thinks. Still, the Beats Solo Buds can be charged via the USB-C port, while the AirPods 2 are still the ancestral Lightning connector.
Editor's Comments:
Overall, in terms of better sound quality, sound isolation and noise reduction, battery life, color selection, etc., the price of the Beats Solo Buds is also 300 yuan cheaper than the AirPods 2, providing a more affordable option for those users who want to experience the Apple ecosystem. According to Apple's official website, the Beats Solo Buds will go on sale in June this year, and interested students can pay attention to them.
