China Wind Power News Network: On May 9, the 2023 wind power supply-side data report released by the Global Wind Energy Council (GWEC) showed that wind turbine manufacturers will record their shipments in 2023. GWEC market information data found that despite the uncertain macroeconomic environment and the continuous challenges in the industrial chain and supply chain, a total of 30 wind turbine manufacturers around the world will add new capacity in 2023, setting a new record of 120.7GW.

Chinese wind turbine manufacturers contributed 81.6 GW of installed capacity in 2023, which makes Chinese companies occupy four of the top five wind power suppliers this year, and six of the top 10.

Goldwind rose to No. 1 to become the largest supplier in 2023, Envision Energy rose three spots to No. 2, and Denmark's Vestas No. 3. Yunda Co., Ltd. and Mingyang Intelligent occupy the fourth and fifth places, respectively, and Mingyang Intelligent is also the world's largest supplier of offshore wind turbines in 2023. Sany Renewable Energy and Dongfang Electric rounded out the top 10, ranking eighth and tenth, respectively.

It should be pointed out that 97% of China's installed wind power capacity in 2023 will be in China's domestic market, which is basically the same as the previous year. In 2023, Chinese OEMs installed 2.3GW of capacity outside their home markets, of which 63% were in the Asian region.

The supply capacity and market share of the world's top 15 OEMs in 2023

In 2023, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, Nordex Group, GE Vernova and Enercon remain the top five wind turbine suppliers in Europe. In the global market, Vestas dropped from the first place in the world in 2022 to third place, but its wind turbines are still supplied to 36 countries, reflecting the geographical diversity of the company's products.

In terms of cumulative wind turbine assembly capacity, as of the end of 2023, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa and GE Vernova are still the top three wind turbine suppliers in the world.

Ben Backwell, CEO of GWEC, said: "The data in this report shows that the global wind industry has entered a period of accelerated growth. However, this growth is mainly concentrated in mature markets such as China, the United States, and Germany. For wind energy to play its full role in driving net-zero emissions, global wind growth needs to accelerate, especially in emerging and developing economies. ”

"If there is more collaboration between governments and industry, through supportive long-term policy development and multilateral cooperation to implement the energy transition, the wind energy industry will be able to thrive globally. Despite record wind capacity, we need to meet climate goals faster and ensure market conditions support a healthy global wind manufacturing supply chain. The wind manufacturing industry is ready to work with partners around the world to create the conditions for long-term growth in the wind energy market and achieve the goal of tripling the installed renewable energy capacity agreed at COP28. ”

Report on key data

In 2023, a total of 23,833 wind turbines were installed worldwide, manufactured by 30 different companies, of which 19 were from the Asia-Pacific region, eight from Europe, two from the Americas, and one from the Middle East.

The growth in wind power installations was mainly driven by orders from manufacturers' home markets, namely China, the United States, and Europe.

With an installed capacity of 16.7GW, Goldwind is the world's largest wind turbine supplier in 2023, while Envision Energy rose three places to second place. Vestas dropped from first place in 2022 to third place, but its new wind capacity in 2023 increased by 1% compared to 2022, and Vestas installed new wind turbines in 36 countries around the world last year. Yunda shares and Mingyang Intelligent occupy the fourth and fifth places, respectively, Mingyang Intelligent is the world's largest supplier of offshore wind turbines.

"In 2023, more than 120 GW of wind turbine capacity will be hoisted globally, two-thirds of which will be delivered by Chinese wind turbine suppliers," said Zhao Feng, Director of Strategy and Market Intelligence at GWEC. ”

"Since 2021, 97% of the installed capacity of Chinese wind turbine manufacturers will still be in the domestic market, although driven by fierce price competition in the domestic wind power industry, Chinese OEMs have been seeking opportunities in overseas markets."

"As of 2023, Vestas, Siemens Gamesa, Nordex Group, GE Vernova and Enercon remain the top five wind turbine suppliers in Europe. Last year, Chinese OEMs installed only 194.1 MW of wind turbines in Europe, including 8.4 MW in the European Union-27 (EU27). ”
