From May 2nd to 5th, the four-day 2024 Shanghai Youth Handball Championship (Women's AB Group) was held at the Yangpu District Junior Sports School Complex. More than 600 athletes from the city, including 6 teams in the high school group and 11 teams in the junior high school group, participated in the competition.
The competition was hosted by the Shanghai Municipal Sports Bureau, undertaken by the Yangpu District Sports Bureau and the Shanghai Handball Association, and co-organized by the Yangpu District Youth Amateur Sports School and Shanghai Fanjie Sports Culture Development Co., Ltd. In this competition, Fei Yuhan, captain of the Yangpu High School women's handball team, and Liu Junjun, captain of the junior high school women's handball team, performed eye-catchingly. Fei Yuhan has been playing handball since the fifth grade of primary school, and with his outstanding skills and leadership, he has led the team to a number of awards.
Liu Junjun from Fudan Experimental High School is in her first year of junior high school this year. When she was in the fourth grade, she was selected by her coach to start practicing handball. Although she was very intense in her studies, she insisted on every training session and every game. At the same time, Liu Junjun's academic performance is also very good, ranking among the best in every exam, and she is also a member of the school's team, "Practicing handball has taught me how to arrange my time reasonably, and it has also cultivated my ability to resist frustration." She said it was a great feeling to be able to play alongside her team-mates.
Although handball is not as well-known as football basketball, the project has a history of more than 30 years in Yangpu. Yangpu has always regarded handball as a key project. In November 2007, Yangpu District Junior Sports School was named the "National Handball Olympic Reserve Talent Training Base", and a large number of outstanding handball players have been produced, including handball player He Jianping, who won the third place in the 23rd Olympic Games, handball player Li Chuanfen, who won the fifth place in the 24th Olympic Games, and Xu Mo, a female handball player who won the championship in the 16th Asian Games.
The Yangpu handball team has a complete coaching team, and the old, middle and young coaches have their own division of labor to train athletes of different ages and positions to escort the players. As a senior handball coach of Yangpu District Junior Sports School and the leader of the handball project of Shanghai Youth Training Famous Coach Studio, Chen Chen insists on training junior high school athletes and high school athletes together in daily training. Before the game, Chen Chen led the high school team to have an exchange match with the Shanghai women's handball youth team, adapting to the strong competition and strengthening the communication with the first-line coaches.
It is understood that at present, Yangpu has formed a talent training layout from primary school, junior high school to high school. "The handball project can be said to be a model of the combination of youth sports and education in our district.
