Pharmacists are the ones who make medicines? Confession of a top three pharmacist

author:Health world

Did you know that the inventors of Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper Coke, and Ginger Soda were all pharmacists?

September 25 is World Medicine Men's Day. According to the latest data released by the International Pharmaceutical Excipients and Technology website, there are more than 4 million pharmacists in the world, and 78% of pharmaceutical technicians are women.

As of the end of December 2020, the number of registered pharmacists nationwide was 594154, an increase of 78,151 over last year. The number of practicing pharmacists per 10,000 population is 4.2, which has met the target requirement of more than 4 practicing pharmacists per 10,000 population in the 13th Five-Year Plan for Drug Safety.

Among them, there are 541264 practicing pharmacists registered in pharmaceutical retail enterprises, accounting for 91.1% of the total number of registrations. There are 34,329, 3,929, 14,514 and 118 practicing pharmacists registered in pharmaceutical wholesale enterprises, pharmaceutical manufacturers, medical institutions and other fields, respectively.

Pharmacists are the ones who make medicines? Confession of a top three pharmacist

In 2020, the top five provinces in the number of registered pharmacists (pharmacy) in China are Guangdong, Shandong, Sichuan, Henan and Jiangsu, and the top five provinces in the number of registered pharmacists (traditional Chinese medicine) in 2020 are Guangdong, Shandong, Sichuan, Henan and Hunan.

The theme of World Pharmacist Day 2021 is "Caring for Public Health, Pharmacists Are Trustworthy". Why choose this theme? Trust is a central part of relationships, especially in the medical field. Patients who have more confidence in their healthcare staff will be more satisfied with their treatment, exhibit more health-promoting behaviors, and their quality of life will improve.

Pharmacists are really recognized

Is it valued?

Pharmacists are the link between doctors, patients, and medicines, guiding patients to use drugs safely and rationally and solving medical confusion.

In the United States, clinical pharmacists play an important role, and patients have great respect and recognition for pharmacists. However, in China, the phenomenon of emphasizing medicine over drugs is widespread, and pharmacists in most areas are still in an embarrassing situation.

The reason is, on the one hand, that the public's understanding of pharmacists is relatively vague, believing that pharmacists are "drugs issued at the hospital window" or "pharmacies sell drugs"; on the other hand, many hospitals and doctors do not attach importance to and do not recognize the work of pharmacists.

After the complete cancellation of drug bonuses in 2017, capital food and medication magazine published a survey and research to visit 85 pharmacists in 14 tertiary hospitals and 4 secondary hospitals in Beijing, and the results showed that 70.45% of pharmacists believe that their status in the hospital has decreased.

Mo Min, from the intravenous medication dispensing department of a hospital in Yantai City, got up at 5:50 a.m. every morning, and from 6:40 a.m. to enter the clean warehouse work, he needed to devote himself to it and stop until the end of the deployment work at 10:00 a.m. He said that although the cabin is usually only 20 degrees, colleagues are still sweating at work.

Although there is little overtime, "the work pressure is still very large, because each bag of liquid is directly injected into the patient's body, so at all times we must always hang a heart, always afraid of which link will cause problems, bringing danger to the patient's life." 」 Mo Min told the health community.

"The work of pharmacists in beijing's third-class hospitals is not valued, let alone hospitals in third-tier cities," Mo Min said of the degree of recognition of pharmacists' work.

In 2020, Mo Min went to the pharmacy department of a third-class hospital in Beijing for further study, and the pharmacists were busy and did not even have time to drink the water toilet, but their work was not paid enough attention, especially clinical pharmacists.

"Although clinical pharmacists are called to participate in consultations, most doctors still do not take their opinions very well, and some doctors will feel that pharmacists do not know how to treat diseases." Mo Min said helplessly.

Why choose the pharmacist profession?

Liu Ruoxuan, a Chinese medicine major who is preparing for graduate school and plans to become a clinical pharmacist after graduation, told the health community, "I don't want to work as an experimenter in a pharmaceutical company."

Originally, Liu Ruo had classmates doing the work of an experimenter, the work content was to do some preparations and Traditional Chinese medicine analysis related work, every day in the face of high performance liquid chromatography, gas chromatography and other instruments, do not finish the data analysis, the work is very boring, and there is no weekend double holiday.

In Liu Ruoxuan's view, going to the hospital pharmacy to work is to grasp the medicine, classify and store a large number of drugs, and then sell them, according to the drugs marketed by the pharmaceutical company, the prescription prescribed by the doctor, sell the drugs to the patients, and find out what drugs sell well and what drugs have good efficacy according to the use of patients.

Although Liu Ruoxuan's cognition of pharmacy work is biased, it can also reflect the lack of understanding of pharmacy work by pharmacy students.

Li Hanzhao, a pharmacist, has been working in a military hospital in Beijing for three years. His career plan before graduation was originally to do pharmaceutical sales, but after a month of internship in sales before graduation, he felt that he was not suitable for sales.

When Li Hanzhao was looking for a job opportunity, he happened to see a student sister posting hospital recruitment information. "In fact, I didn't care too much about this recruitment information at the beginning, and I thought that going to the pharmacy to work was estimated to be more professional, so I held the mentality of trying it out and submitted my resume." Li Hanzhao said, "Many girls in our class also submitted resumes with me, but because the only two male pharmacists in the hospital pharmacy left, only male pharmacists were vacant at that time, so my interview progressed smoothly."

Speaking of the reasons for the departure of the first two pharmacists, Li Hanzhao said that in the military hospital, it is difficult to promote non-military status, and one pharmacist leaves his job to go to a better platform after taking the examination for a practicing pharmacist certificate; the other pharmacist's wife in his hometown is pregnant, and he chooses to return to his hometown to work and take more care of his family.

In the three years that Li Hanzhao worked in the pharmacy, he went back and forth to many people, basically maintaining about ten people. During the probation period, Li Hanzhao caused a lot of mistakes because of carelessness, sometimes when he grabbed the wrong medicine, when he missed the special decoction method, "At that time, I contacted the patient myself, the patient took the medicine to the hospital, I slowly picked out the wrong medicine, and then apologized to people."

Li Hanzhao sighed that newcomers, well, it is inevitable to make mistakes, fortunately, there were no major problems in the probation period, and he spent it smoothly, he said that he learned a lot from his predecessors in the past three years and became more and more serious.

Li Hanzhao's Chinese medicine pharmacy has only two dosage forms of Chinese medicine, one is a tablet and the other is a granule. Every day, three people are responsible for the preparation of granules, and the others are responsible for the preparation of tablets.

Since the granule cabinet guards the window for taking the medicine, the pharmacist responsible for dispensing granules is also responsible for receiving and distributing the prescription at the window, Li Hanzhao stressed that in this process, it is necessary to carry out "four checks and ten pairs", the specific content is: the investigation and punishment party, the department, the name, the name, the name, the specification, the quantity; the check the contraindications, the drug properties, the dosage; the rationality of the drug, and the diagnosis of the clinic. After the "four checks and ten pairs" are completed, the drugs are handed over to the corresponding pharmacist for dispensing, and then reviewed after the allocation is completed, and finally the drugs are packaged and distributed.

Although Li Hanzhao's daily work is very boring, he feels that no matter what kind of work he does, his attitude is very important, and it is also very remarkable to do a good job and do it all the time.

Why pharmacy students, young pharmacists

Relatively shallow understanding of pharmaceutical work?

Talking about the important task of pharmacists "prescription review", Liu Ruoxu exclaimed, "Isn't this what doctors should do?" It is the doctor who understands the patient, not the pharmacist, who does not understand the patient's situation, how do you know if the drug is prescribed?" At the same time, Liu Ruoxu felt that Chinese medicine practitioners could only see whether the compatibility of Chinese medicine was correct, and often felt that the existence of Chinese medicine practitioners was superfluous.

However, for the future plan to take the examination as a practicing pharmacist, Liu Ruoxuan feels that she is still more inclined to practice Chinese pharmacists, she believes that "Western medicine can clearly tell you how to eat bad, and Chinese medicine can cure you in a confused way."

The health community understands that pharmacy students, grassroots pharmacists, and young pharmacists have a relatively shallow understanding of pharmacy work; in fact, pharmacy, as a high-end discipline, can make great achievements.

Professor Jiao Hongjun, director of the Department of Pharmacy of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University, deployed to transfer drugs during the "7.20 Henan rainstorm" and handed over the answer sheet of "zero drug loss".

Miao Jing, director of the Department of Pharmacy of the Children's Hospital Affiliated to Zhejiang University School of Medicine, led the pharmaceutical team to carry out the research and development of special drug preparations for children to make up for the lack of pharmacotypes for children, and their hospital preparation room has two fist products: Promoting Changling (zinc lysine sulfate oral liquid) and Kaikoule (compound iron zinc oral liquid), as a supplement to clinical medication, it has become a blockbuster product, "even attracting many parents from outside the province to come to dispense drugs.".

Professor Chen Wenying, Director of the Department of Pharmacy of the Third Affiliated Hospital of Southern Medical University, led the establishment of the first pharmaceutical alliance in Guangdong Province, and launched the first "online + offline" family pharmacist home service model in the whole region, and more than 90% of the public expressed satisfaction with the family pharmacist service.

In the face of the contrast between the grand Doctor's Day and the dull Pharmacist's Day, Li Hanzhao said, "In fact, this epidemic has given the Chinese people a more comprehensive understanding of doctors, and the exploration of doctors by medical students will be more in-depth, medicine is not separated, as long as it can make the world less painful, I believe that doctors, pharmacists and all health system workers will go all out."

On September 25, World Pharmacist Day, Li Hanzhao was still on duty, talking about the future, he hoped that the country could pay more attention to the cause of pharmacy and the development of pharmacy, at the personal level, Li Hanzhao will use his spare time to study more and study more, "to improve himself more, it is a smoother and smoother road."
