1. What is a nodule?
A "nodule" is not a name for a disease, it is an abnormal signal seen on imaging tests, which is simply a small lump found in the body, which can be caused by tissue growth, inflammation, benign or malignant tumors. Let's talk about the 3 most common types of nodules:
1. Pulmonary nodules
Pulmonary nodules refer to round-like or irregular lesions in the lungs with a diameter of less than 3 cm. It has been reported that the proportion of small lung nodules detected in physical examination is as high as 20-30%, and the detection rate in smokers is nearly 50%, and most pulmonary nodules are benign, but there are also a few malignant cases.
(1) Benign pulmonary nodules
It is mostly caused by inflammation, infection, vascular malformations, benign tumors (pulmonary hamartoma, pulmonary fibroma, benign teratoma, etc.). Generally, anti-inflammatory, antifungal, anti-tuberculosis and other drug treatments can be used.
(2) Malignant pulmonary nodules
It is usually due to primary lung cancer or metastatic malignancy and requires hospitalization.

The nature of the nodule can be inferred by palpation, combined with ultrasound, X-ray, CT, MRI, and other examinations.
1. Benign nodules
Benign nodules should be followed up for 3-6 months, and if there is not much development within 1-2 years, there is no need to worry too much, and regular re-examination is sufficient.
2. Malignant nodules
If you find a malignant nodule, please seek medical attention immediately and treat it promptly according to the doctor's advice.
