On May 7, Beijing time, the mixed doubles quarterfinals of the table tennis WTT Saudi Arabia Grand Slam were all released, among which the top seeds Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha won 3-0 to advance, and the third seeds Tomokazu Zhangmoto/Hina Hayada were in danger, but the second seeds Lin Zhongxun/Shen Yubin, and the fourth seeds Lin Yunru/Chen Siyu have all been upset.
Upper Half District
Top seeds in the top half of the bracket Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha are the most outstanding mixed doubles pair in table tennis today, and their opponents, the multinational pair of Al Hadrawi (Saudi Arabia)/Gouda (Egypt), were too much behind, and despite their best efforts, they were swept 3-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-7) by Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha and missed out on a further round.
Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha's next opponent will be the Indian pair Desai/Gol Lampard, who fought hard in the round of 16 and narrowly won in five games, eliminating the Spanish star pair Robles/Xiao Yaoqian (11-5, 5-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7, 11-7) 3-2, which can be regarded as an upset, but it is difficult to overturn Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha in the quarterfinals.
Third seeds Tomokazu Zhangmoto/Hina Hayada of Japan had a tough battle against German and European champions Qiu Dang/Mitterham, who had the last laugh but were dragged to key points and wasted match points in the final two games, but ultimately won 3-1 (11-8, 11-5, 13-15, 14-12) and refused to be beaten back.
The Japanese pair will face Japan's Galdos/Polkanova, who beat Hungary's Eksage/Madras 3-1 (11-6, 7-11, 11-8, 11-4) in the previous round, and will be waiting for Tomokazu Haramoto/Hina Hayada to take on them, although it is widely believed that the Chinese and Japanese pairs are more likely to advance to the semi-finals, and the semi-finals are expected to be the pinnacle showdown!
Lower Half Ward
The second seeds in the bottom half of the bracket were South Korea's Lim Jong-hoon/Shin Yu-bin, but the pair suffered a miserable upset, losing 2-3 to Sweden's Karlsson/Carlberg after five games, and were eliminated by only two points in the deciding game (10-12, 11-8, 9-11, 11-8, 15-17), while Shin Yubin also lost 0-3 to Japan's Miyu Kihara in women's singles.
Next up for Sweden will be Hong Kong's final-winning pair Wong Chun-ting/To Hoi-king, who swept past Canada's Lee Yuen Cheung/Liao Kwai Wah 3-0 at 16-8 and relentlessly blasted out their first single game 0 points (11-4, 11-0, 11-4).
Mixed Doubles fourth seeds Chinese Taipei's Lin Yunru/Chen Siyu were also eliminated and crashed 1-3 (8-11, 10-12, 16-14, 3-11) against France's Alex (the Lebrun brothers)/Yuan Jianan, so it was a surprise that half of the top four seeds in the Mixed Doubles had already lost.
Alex/Yuan will face Romania's Ionescu/Szokos next, but the latter did not play, and their first opponents in the first round, Egypt's Omar/Mecherif withdrew from the tournament, so they were guaranteed to qualify - the quarter-finals are about to begin, and Wang Chuqin/Sun Yingsha are expected to make it through.
