On 5 May 2024, the 33rd International Day of the Midwife will be celebrated for midwives around the world. On this ordinary and meaningful day, let us approach those warm and determined figures - midwives. They are the first people in the world to embrace new life, guarding the arrival of each new life with professionalism and love.
From the long wait for the mother's pregnancy in October to the crisp and pleasant cry of the newborn baby, it is they who guard the happy moments of every family with professionalism and enthusiasm. In the special battlefield of the delivery room, midwives are the closest comrades-in-arms and partners of mothers.
With their extensive obstetric knowledge and keen observational skills, they can accurately assess the progress of labor and predict and respond to possible birth risks. With excellent delivery technology and neonatal resuscitation and first aid technology, they always monitor the condition of mothers and babies and escort the safety of mothers and babies.
At the same time, midwives are also sooths of the mother's soul. A smile, an encouraging look, and a warm word can give the mother great strength and courage. At the critical moment of childbirth, they cheer for the mother, help regulate breathing, replenish energy, so that every mother can feel the peace of mind and warmth as if she is a family member.
However, not all of the jobs are glamorous. Midwives often have to deal with amniotic fluid splashes, meconium contamination, and even bloodstained clothing. They suffer from the smell of childbirth and the pain caused by the bent posture that they maintain for a long time during stitches. But every time I see the mother and child are safe and hear the first cry of the newborn, all the hard work and fatigue disappear, and it is replaced by a full sense of accomplishment and happiness. This is the motivation for midwives to stick to their posts and give selflessly.
