Why Huawei has been able to master so many advanced technologies and have such outstanding performance in the field of science and technology is inextricably linked to Huawei's investment in scientific research to a large extent. At the opening ceremony of the Digital Intelligence Asia Pacific Summit held by Huawei and the ASEAN Foundation on April 29, Meng Wanzhou, Huawei's CFO, said in the opening video: Huawei attaches great importance to R&D and technological innovation, and has invested more than 1 trillion yuan in R&D over the past decade.
At present, among US technology companies, only Apple, Nvidia, and Microsoft have a market value of more than $2 trillion, and Intel, a well-known CPU chip manufacturer, has a market value of about hundreds of billions of dollars.
One thing to note is that Intel's market capitalization is in the hundreds of billions of dollars, which doesn't really mean that Intel itself has so many assets. In fact, this is equivalent to saying that in the past ten years, Huawei's investment in R&D alone is close to half of Intel.
Judging from the data released by Huawei, its total revenue will reach 700 billion yuan in 2023, although this is not the peak of Huawei, but it is also the highest year of revenue after Huawei was included in the "entity list" in 2019. In this comparison, Huawei's R&D investment in the past decade is close to Huawei's total revenue in one and a half years.
In fact, it is precisely because of Huawei's large amount of investment in technology self-research that Huawei's thriving technology and tens of thousands of patents are available. As the company with the highest R&D investment in China for many years, it is not surprising that Huawei has been able to master these technologies and complete a breakthrough in the "blockade" of the United States.
Huawei has always attached great importance to technology, and before Huawei was "completely cut off" by American and Western companies in 2019, Huawei has also invested a lot of money in technology self-development, and Huawei has also been conducting a series of technical exchanges with American and Western companies. In particular, after Huawei was added to the "Entity List" by the United States, Huawei has further strengthened its investment in self-research and development of technology.
According to Huawei's public information, Huawei will complete a ten-year investment of trillions in 2023, and Huawei's R&D investment will reach 164.7 billion yuan in 2023, accounting for 23.4% of the annual revenue. In fact, Huawei's investment in R&D has been increasing year by year in recent years.
Huawei's R&D investment reached 142.7 billion yuan in 2021 and 161.5 billion yuan in 2022. The gradual increase in R&D investment shows that Huawei has paid more and more attention to self-research in technology in recent years. With Huawei's large R&D investment, Huawei's technology has also begun to improve rapidly.
Huawei's 5G technology is currently "far ahead", and Huawei's new energy vehicle technology and intelligent driving technology have also been recognized by a large number of users and manufacturers. In the field of smartphones, Huawei has also realized the localization of chips and operating systems, including EDA software and a large number of electronic components.
From Huawei's development, it is not difficult to see that only by attaching importance to self-research and development of technology can we avoid being stuck. Only by mastering the core technology can we better deal with the "encirclement, pursuit, and interception" from the United States and the West.
