In the past few days, many countries in Southeast Asia and South Asia have continued to experience high temperatures, and there has been no rain for many days, resulting in a shortage of water in reservoirs and soaring electricity consumption, which has seriously affected the lives of local people.
On May 1, hundreds of thousands of fish died in a 300-hectare reservoir in Dong Nai province in southern Vietnam, where workers barely moved an inch because the surface of the water was covered in a dense mass of dead fish. In April, Dong Nai province went without rain for several weeks and experienced high temperatures of around 40 degrees Celsius, breaking the city's 1998 high temperature record.
In addition, reservoirs are experiencing severe water shortages in many parts of southern and central Vietnam, with up to 200 tonnes of fish dying across the country.
Bangladesh in South Asia also suffered the longest heatwave on record, with temperatures reaching 43 degrees Celsius on April 29. Many local businesses said on May 1 that due to the shortage of supply, the price of air conditioners has increased significantly.
Islam, head of an e-commerce shop in Bangladesh: Last week, the price of an air conditioner of a certain brand was 63,000 taka (about 4,200 yuan), and now the retail price in the market has risen to 72,000 taka (about 4,800 yuan).
