A few days ago, 17 members of the "Blue Committee" of the Chinese Kuomintang, including Fu Laiying, chief of the "Legislative Yuan" caucus, organized a delegation to visit the mainland, and returned to Taiwan with fruitful results loaded with a number of measures to benefit Taiwan. Chen Yuzhen, a Kuomintang "legislator" from Kinmen County, who returned to Taiwan with the "Blue Committee" delegation two days ago, told the media: "The mainland advocates large-scale exchanges and encourages more contacts between all social strata. Whether it is in the tourism industry or in the field of agricultural and fishery specialties, the Kuomintang hopes to help the people strive for better economic living conditions."
However, with regard to the good intentions of the Kuomintang, the DPP authorities, with the exception of the Tourism Bureau, which said that they were "happy to see it come to fruition," were very cautious and viewed it with "hostility." The MAC responded that it "does not conform to the principle of reciprocal opening," and the DPP caucus and the "legislators" of the Green Camp have even directly and viciously smeared them. In this regard, the Taiwan media interpreted this as a "soft nail" to the mainland, and the DPP authorities want to put this matter on hold, and will not let the KMT score points because of this matter, and seize the initiative in communication and dialogue with the mainland.
Gao Jin Sumei, a member of Taiwan's "Legislative Yuan Internal Affairs Committee," could not stand this, and promptly put out the case for this reason, and demanded that the DPP authorities' "Ministry of the Interior," "Ministry of Communications," the Mainland Affairs Council, the Straits Exchange Foundation, and other units issue a special report on "the mainland's specific response and actions in opening up mainland tourists to Taiwan," and demanded that the Taiwan authorities' follow-up actions and countermeasures be "clearly explained."

In this regard, some scholars on the island have pointed out that the DPP authorities are now in a "dilemma," and if they open up cross-strait exchanges, they will be like the previous eight years of efforts to "pursue 'Taiwan independence' behind closed doors" have been wasted; if they continue to boycott cross-strait exchanges, the Taiwan people will be even more disappointed, and they will also see "more mainland fighters encircling Taiwan." The "American father" has long said that there must be no trouble in the Taiwan Strait. What is Lai Qingde going to do?
Compared with the DPP's dilemma, the KMT and the People's Party are much more comfortable, and it can be said that they can attack and retreat. Huang Shanshan, deputy general of the "Legislative Yuan" caucus of the Taiwan People's Party, said on 30 August that the People's Party has always advocated the need for cross-strait exchanges, which is a good thing, but there must be long-term and stable ways and channels, and there must be certain supporting facilities. It's not like anyone who visits the mainland can get some benefits, or turn them off after a few days.

Kuomintang Taipei Mayor Jiang Wanan also said on the 30th, "Cross-strait exchanges, if they can benefit the people of Taiwan and related industries, are all good things, which is also what the people of Taiwan are looking forward to." The DPP's "China Affairs Department" and the Mainland Affairs Council also reminded the Taiwan people that "they should not go to China (the mainland) for the time being unless necessary, on the grounds that the mainland's revised and passed "Law on Guarding State Secrets" came into force on 1 May.
To put it bluntly, the DPP authorities just don't want to engage in dialogue and communication with the mainland, so as not to be "peaceful" and "reunified" by the other side. Of course, they are all the more reluctant to let the leading power of cross-strait policy be sidelined, to let the other side of the strait regard the Kuomintang as a channel for dialogue, and to let the people of Taiwan think that the Kuomintang can become a bridge of communication between the two sides of the strait. Therefore, no matter what, in the future, the DPP will try by all means to sabotage cross-strait communication and cooperation. As the old saying goes, if it doesn't work for me, then I destroy it.
