On the afternoon of April 30, Huawei released an internal personnel adjustment document, announcing that Yu Chengdong was appointed as the chairman of the terminal BG. He Gang, former COO of Huawei Device BG, took over as CEO of Huawei Device BG. It is understood that Yu Chengdong previously served as Huawei's executive director, Huawei terminal BG CEO, and intelligent vehicle solution BU.
A person familiar with the matter told the Securities Times that Huawei has a sound internal governance structure, and this appointment for normal management can allow Yu Chengdong to have more energy to create high-quality products for consumers.
Born in 1969, Yu Chengdong graduated from Northwestern Polytechnical University with a bachelor's degree and a master's degree from Tsinghua University, joined Huawei in 1993 and has served as 3G Product Director, Vice President of Wireless Product Marketing, President of Wireless Product Line, President of European Region, and President of Strategy and Marketing. In 2011, Yu Chengdong took over Huawei's terminal business. In 2010, Huawei's mobile phone sales were only 3 million units, less than one-tenth of Apple's global sales. By 2019, Huawei shipped about 240 million smartphones, surpassing Apple.
In the 2024 New Year's letter, Yu Chengdong said: "The terminal has always been an iron army that dares to innovate and win. In the past ten years, it has led many industry firsts and launched many leading products and technologies. In the next ten years, we will continue to adhere to the smart all-scenario strategy, dare to make trade-offs, adhere to the industry-focused, product-focused, and feature-focused, and create competitive and ultimate experience products and services for consumers. We will continue to increase R&D investment, make breakthroughs in root technology, and serve users with king products and the ultimate experience of all scenarios based on a unified foundation through the vertical integration of software and hardware core clouds, the construction and application of AI capabilities, and the four scenarios of personal intelligence, office intelligence, travel intelligence, and whole-house intelligence. ”
When it comes to Yu Chengdong, many people will still think of his mantra "far ahead". At last year's Huawei pollen annual meeting, Yu Chengdong responded to the ridicule of netizens as "far ahead", he said that many people have edited the "far ahead" he once said at the press conference in the past ten years into a paragraph, which has become a continuous "far ahead", saying that he has been saying that he is far ahead.

At present, in addition to the field of mobile phones, Yu Chengdong has also put a lot of energy into the automobile business, and has selected the platform for Hongmeng Zhixing many times. In the 2024 New Year's letter, Yu Chengdong said that (in 2023), Zhixuan Car turned around against the wind and fought back, and the new M7 was set to exceed 100,000 units in two and a half months after it was launched.
In October 2023, at the stage of hot sales and tight production capacity, Yu Chengdong also appeared at the Cialis Smart Factory to personally supervise the production speed and quality of vehicles. At that time, Yu Chengdong said: "We are working overtime, several shifts to start production in a row, so that everyone can drive the new car home as soon as possible!"
At present, Wenjie has become the sales leader of the new forces. At the press conference of the new M5, Yu Chengdong revealed that from January 1 to April 22 this year, the cumulative sales of the whole series reached 105,000 units, becoming the first new force.
Regarding the development of Huawei's terminal business, Yu Chengdong said in the 2024 New Year's letter: "The terminal has embarked on the fast track of development through the 2C transformation in the past ten years, and has survived tenaciously after experiencing multiple rounds of sanctions from country A.
