According to Yang Jia's later statement, during the interrogation, Yang Jia was beaten by seven police officers.
After returning to Beijing, Yang Jia became more and more annoyed by the police's interrogation behavior, Yang Jia thought that she should not be interrogated by the police for no reason, and she was beaten by the police.
So he complained to the Ministry of Public Security, the Shanghai Municipal Public Security Bureau, and the supervision department of the Zhabei Public Security Branch by e-mail, telephone, etc.
It is required that the police officers involved be dismissed from public office and that they be compensated 10,000 yuan as a fee for mental damages.
In this regard, the inspection detachment of the Zhabei Branch sent people to Beijing twice to negotiate with Yang Jia, saying that Yang Jia would be compensated 1,500 yuan, but Yang Jia refused to accept it.

At 9 a.m. on July 1, Yang Jia came to the Zhabei Political and Legal Building with several beer bottles, filled with gasoline.

Yang Jia first used several incendiary beer bottles to cause a fire in the flower bed on the side of the road outside the political and legal building, and he rushed into the political and legal building while everyone was fighting the fire.
Yang Jia broke into the hall and frantically vented his anger to the police with a boning knife, and the four policemen were cut down in a pool of blood.
Yang Jia's frenzied behavior lasted 10 minutes, eventually killing six people and injuring four.
On September 1, 2008, the judge pronounced the verdict that Yang Jia was sentenced to death for intentional homicide.
In court, Yang Jia said something surprising:

Yang Jia was dissatisfied with the first-instance verdict and appealed.
In the course of the two-level trial, Yang Jia and his lawyer both mentioned that Yang Jia was pressed to the ground and beaten by seven police officers during the investigation at the Zhijiang West Road Police Station. On October 20, 2008, the Shanghai Municipal High People's Court issued a second-instance ruling, rejecting the appeal and upholding the original verdict, and Yang Jia was sentenced to death in accordance with the law.
On November 26, 2008, Yang Jia was executed in Shanghai.
