In 1899, Shinjiro Tokai (January 30, 1879 – February 20, 1962) founded the Torii Shoten in Osaka, Japan, which was renamed the Kotobuki Company in 1921 and Suntory in 1967. In 1923, Shinjiro Tokai opened the Yamazaki Distillery, which was officially put into operation in December 1924, and the Yamazaki Distillery has been established for nearly 100 years. In 1973, 50 years after Yamazaki was founded, Keizo Saji, Suntory's second president, followed in the footsteps of Shinjiro Toi and established his second malt whisky distillery, Hakushu. Located in Minami Alps National Park in Japan's Yamanashi Prefecture, Hakushu is also known as the "Forest Distillery" because it is surrounded by Mt. Yatsugatake to the north and Kokai Komagatake to the west. At about 700 meters above sea level, it is one of the highest whisky distilleries in the world.

The official price of both wines is 3,850 yen (tax included), which is about 178 yuan at the current exchange rate, or 690 yuan (700ml) if converted to the price of a standard 700ml bottle. Because of the recent rapid depreciation of the yen, even falling to 160 yen to 1 dollar, many friends have recently felt that shopping in Japan may be more cost-effective. If you're planning a trip to Japan in the near future, especially at Yamazaki and Hakushu distilleries, consider the limited-edition whiskies from these two distilleries.
