I bought 10 four-piece sets a year.
It's always been a feat I've been proud of, and it's cost me a lot of money! Like most women, I like to buy four-piece suits, even crazier than clothes. I bought a lot, and gradually found some doorways:
The way we take it for granted may be full of pitfalls.
Today, Xiao Yuan will start from his own experience and talk about the pitfalls that he often encounters in the process of buying a four-piece set.
.01 "Pure cotton" is 100% cotton
I don't forget where I heard that "pure cotton" refers to textiles with a cotton content of more than 75% (some say 70%), and "pure cotton" is a textile that is understood by ordinary people as 100% cotton.
I've always been skeptical of this claim, and I even went to a search engine and searched for four keywords. Surprisingly, I got two very different answers▽
So pure cotton, cotton, 100% cotton three key words are the same meaning, this question bothered me for a long time, until I saw the national standard: GB/T29862-2013 "textile fiber content labeling".
• For products with only one fiber component, add "100%" before or after the fiber name, or "pure" or "whole" in front of the fiber name.
• When a product or a part of a product consists entirely of one type of fiber, the fiber content is indicated by "100%", "pure" or "whole", with a fiber content tolerance of 0.

In other words, cotton = cotton = 100% cotton! So stop being suspicious, our understanding in the past is completely correct.
.02 "Pure cotton" is not a panacea
Whether you're buying a four-piece suit or a dress, there are people who are too superstitious about "cotton" fabrics, and I'm no exception. Half of the 10 four-piece sets I bought this time were cotton. But after using it, I found that pure cotton is not a panacea.
Cotton fabrics have three major defects:
(1) It is easy to shrink, so the cotton four-piece set (especially the quilt cover) is often larger. After being put on the quilt, it will be larger, which is reserved for future shrinkage. However, most duvet covers will still be larger than quilts even after shrinking.
(2) The life is short, especially the cotton four-piece set with a relatively high count (fine silk thread), which will become soft after washing several times. If you look at the light, you will find it as loose as a cloth that has been used for many years.
(3) It's easy to stick to the hair, which is unbearable for a pet owner like me. Cats don't even have to go to bed, and the cat hair flying in the air alone is enough to cover the surface of the four-piece suit.
Pure cotton has advantages, such as sweat absorption, breathability, and so on. But these advantages are not exclusive to pure cotton, and now blended fabrics can also do it, even better than the effect of pure cotton. Therefore, it is a smart person's practice to choose some blended fabrics appropriately.
.03 The higher the "thread count", the finer the cloth
In the past, the four-piece set had two parameters, "thread count" and "density", but now it is generally only said "thread count" (density is replaced by "gram weight"). The thread count has its own historical story:
When weaving, the silk thread needs to be wound around the spool. The number of threads on a spool is fixed, and the thinner the thread, the more spools are used to weave the same size of cloth.

So you can understand it like this:
The higher the thread count, the thinner the thread on the fabric.
There are three benefits associated with thin threads:
(1) The fabric will be softer;
(2) The surface of the fabric is more shiny;
(3) The fabric is more durable and stronger.
However, high-count fabrics can also bring some problems, such as high price and easy shrinkage. So if you're looking for comfort, you'll have to spend a little more on a high-count four-piece set (60 to start, 100 to be high-quality, 120 to be the best) –
However, blended fabrics are preferred, which not only reduce the cost, but also avoid shrinkage.
.04 The larger the "gram weight", the thicker the cloth
The unit of grammage is "g/㎡", which represents the weight of each square meter of cloth. In fact, it still represents density: the merchant colloquially says that "the gram weight of this four-piece set is 400g", which actually refers to the weight of 400g per square meter of cloth.
The higher the gram weight, the thicker the fabric.
There are three ways to increase the gram weight:
(1) Improve the density of the fabric and reduce the gap between the silk threads.
(2) Reduce the number of threads and increase the thickness of the silk thread.
(3) Change the material and use a heavier material for spinning.
So you see, there is only the first way to improve comfort. The latter two methods are completely meaningless: weaving cloth with hemp rope is definitely a large gram weight, but can that thing be comfortable?
Therefore, buying a four-piece set can not only look at the gram weight, the material, the number of threads, is many times more important than the gram. And the large gram weight may not be comfortable, I have bought a large gram quilt cover, it feels thicker than the summer cool quilt, and it is enough to cover the quilt cover directly in summer.
.05 "cotton" is not necessarily cotton
Many fabrics like to be named after "cotton", such as washed cotton, brushed cotton, Tianzhu cotton, and so on. These names refer to the crafting process:
Washed cotton is a process in which the fabric is washed repeatedly in water to create a soft texture and a wrinkled appearance.
Brushing cotton is to brush the fabric repeatedly with a brush to make a layer of hair on the surface of the fabric to make a plush feeling.
Tianzhu cotton is "weaving cloth in a circle", and the quilt cover made has no seams, so as not to be awkward when sleeping.

Each of these processes has its own characteristics, but none of them has anything to do with the material of the fabric. Even pure polyester fabrics with 0% cotton content can still use these processes.
There is no good or bad craft, it only depends on personal needs and preferences.
.06 There are only four types of "cotton".
So what "cotton" represents cotton? There are only four kinds on the four-piece set:
High-quality cotton, Xinjiang long-staple cotton, Bima cotton (also translated as Pima cotton), Egyptian cotton.
The so-called "high-quality cotton" is actually ordinary cotton!
The remaining three types of cotton are all varieties of high-end cotton, and they all have the same quality, with the advantage: the fiber length of cotton (more than 33mm, less than 30mm for ordinary cotton), so the fabric is softer and stronger.
Bima cotton and Egyptian cotton are all imported, and in the past, we didn't have long-fiber cotton, so we could only buy these at a high price. In recent years, Xinjiang long-staple cotton has finally been able to be produced, which is more expensive than horse cotton and Egyptian cotton.
So buy a four-piece set, it is recommended to look for Xinjiang long-staple cotton!
"One more thing: more than 90% of the cotton in China comes from Xinjiang, so many merchants say that they use "Xinjiang cotton". But Xinjiang cotton ≠ Xinjiang long-staple cotton, Xinjiang cotton is ordinary cotton, you must look for it when you buy it. 」
.07 "Size" depends on the detail page
When buying a four-piece set, the options are often simple: 1.5m bed, 1.8m bed, etc. But in fact, the size of the quilt cover and bed sheet inside is different, I bought two four-piece sets, and the bed sheet looks like a miniskirt ▽ after the bed sheet is laid
It is recommended to buy bed sheets with a size not less than "mattress size + 0.2m".
There are also duvet covers - the duvet covers in the four-piece set are generally double quilt covers, but double quilts come in two sizes: 2m× 2.2m and 2.2m×2.4m, and it is not suitable for the duvet cover to be too large or too small.
There is also a thing that is used in place of bed sheets, called "fitted sheets". You can understand that this thing is to add a ring of rubber bands to the back of the sheet, which can completely wrap the sheet and avoid running back and forth.
People who like to lean on the bedside to play with their mobile phones and read books are more recommended to buy a fitted sheet.
The size of the fitted sheet is larger, and it is recommended to be no less than "mattress size +0.3m".
These sizes need to be entered into the product detail page to see, and you must not try to save trouble when buying. Be sure to carefully check each size, and it is best to use a tape measure to measure the actual size of the bedding in order to choose the most suitable one.
