On July 25, Tunisian President Said announced the dismissal of Prime Minister Mehihi and the suspension of parliamentary activities, a move that the opposition dubbed a "coup," but this move won widespread support in Tunisia.
On August 5, Said said his decision to remove the prime minister and freeze the powers of parliament was "no turning back" and refused to negotiate on the country's political crisis. On August 23, Said also said that the suspension of parliament would continue and the resumption of parliamentary activities would be announced separately.
