Liu Yingqi also participated in the fourth anti-"encirclement and suppression" in the Hubei-Henan-Anhui Soviet Region, during which his foot was seriously damaged, and the troops arranged for him to return to his hometown to recuperate, but he insisted on following the troops, and finally followed the troops to start the Long March.

According to Liu Yingqi's recollection, during the Long March, he was arranged to be a member of the reception team, the unit that walked at the back of the Red Army, responsible for taking care of all the soldiers who missed orders, and at that time he took in a total of more than 300 soldiers, mainly hungry.

Because the troops in front of them ate everything they could eat, they could only eat grass roots when they walked behind, but sometimes they couldn't even find grass roots, so they had no choice but to eat cow dung, because yak dung was all grass.

He said that especially when crossing the meadow, many warriors were so hungry that they did not get up when they fell into the swamp, and he still remembers that one warrior fell into the swamp, and he took the hand of the warrior, but he was hungry and did not have the strength to pull up.
