Except for the whirlpools of the turbulent water in the main channel, the deep pits left by the sand pumping boats at the bottom of the river, the backwater bays washed out by the rapids, and the deep water area at the head of the dam, the rest of the Yellow River is a piece of tidal flats. But what kind of place does the Yellow River soft-shelled turtle like to hide?
The body structure of soft-shelled turtles also determines that they are more adapted to slow-moving waters. Their limbs are suitable for swimming, but they are not designed to cope with rapids. In rapids, they can feel overwhelmed and have difficulty controlling their direction.
In areas of the Yellow River's relatively slow current, sediment will slowly settle down and over time form one shoal after another.
These shallows, for many small fish, are the most beloved habitat. For soft-shelled turtles, these shallows are a paradise for them. Here they can not only find abundant food, but also ideal spawning grounds.

In the cold winter, the soft-shelled turtle hides in the silt at the bottom of the river and goes into hibernation, and it is only in March and April that the soft-shelled turtle slowly wakes up from its slumber.
Especially at the beginning of June, when the wheat turns slightly yellow, the water temperature of the Yellow River gradually rises, and the appetite of soft-shelled turtles also increases.
At this time, the daytime temperature is around 33 degrees, which is the most active time for soft-shelled turtles, who are busy foraging from 10 a.m. until about 4 p.m.
Therefore, it is recommended to go to the shallows where the soft-shelled turtles inhabit after June and use a sea rod to fish.
At this time, in order to reserve enough energy, soft-shelled turtles will move frequently and look for food. And the higher the temperature, the more active the foraging, especially from 12 noon to two or three o'clock in the afternoon, the probability of catching soft-shelled turtle is very high.
From June to September, the Yellow River soft-shelled turtle foraging peak, and in late October, the water temperature of the Yellow River begins to gradually cool, and the appetite of soft-shelled turtles also decreases, and it is generally difficult to catch them.
