Writing Classics Online Exhibition No. 1313 - Xia Zhu (Song) "Court Test"

author:Hao Yi's life

What kind of scene did Xia Zhu depict in Xia Zhu's writings? Let us find out.

Xia Zhu, the minister and writer of the Northern Song Dynasty, with his unique perspective and delicate brushstrokes, depicted the grand occasion of the palace examination for us.

In the poem "Court Examination", Xia Zhu depicts the examination scene vividly and distinctly.

In the poem, "The Sun and the Moon on the Palace" depicts the candidates dressed in gorgeous dresses, standing solemnly in the bright sunlight and moonlight, and their figures are reflected on the palace, as bright as the sun and the moon.

"The Flag in the Inkstone Moves the Dragon and Snake" depicts the candidates splashing ink, writing their talent and wisdom, and the ink in the inkstone seems to have turned into a flag and a dragon and snake, jumping on the paper.

"3,000 words of vertical and horizontal ritual music, only to Danqi and the sun is not oblique" shows that the candidates take the theme of ritual music, use 3,000 words to show their knowledge and opinions, and face the emperor alone, until the sun and shadow are not over.

This poem not only shows the solemnity and pomp of the palace examination, but also shows the talent and perseverance of the candidates.

Xia Zhu's "Imperial Examination" is not only a praise for the imperial examination, but also a praise for the pursuit of knowledge and ideals by ancient literati and scholars. Let's feel the charm of this talent and perseverance!

Poetry Commentary:

The emperor who was in the palace was as dazzling as the sun and the moon, and the shadow of the flag in the inkstone was like a dragon and snake swimming. The test takers answered the questions fluently, sprinkled thousands of words, and waved them all. All the tests were completed, and the sun on the steps in front of the temple had not yet set in the west.
