Today (April 26), the academic seminar on "World Expression and Global Communication of Chinese Discourse" was held at Tongji University, hosted by the Research Center for China's Foreign Discourse System and the School of Foreign Chinese of Tongji University.
Zheng Qinghua, President of Tongji University and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, Liu Peijun, Director of the Department of Language and Information Management of the Ministry of Education, Chen Yiqun, Deputy Director of the International Publicity Office of the Shanghai Municipal Party Committee, and Xu Jun, Representative of the Expert Committee of the China Research Center for Foreign Discourse System and Professor of Zhejiang University, attended and delivered speeches respectively.
Zheng Qinghua said that we should think deeply about how to promote language to better serve the country's political and economic development, better serve the country's diplomacy and foreign cooperation and opening up in various fields. It is necessary to deeply understand and systematically study these basic issues in the external discourse communication system, such as what to disseminate, who to see, who to disseminate, and how to disseminate, strengthen the cross-integration of foreign language disciplines with science, engineering, medical and cultural disciplines, and deeply integrate them with the politics, economy, language and culture of countries and regions, and use modern digital technologies such as artificial intelligence to empower today's external discourse system and international communication. Tongji University attaches great importance to the construction of the Research Center for China's Foreign Discourse System, and will further strengthen its mission of serving the national strategy, promote relevant scientific research, talent training and social service work, and make new and greater contributions to accelerating the construction of China's foreign discourse system in the new era and enhancing China's international discourse power.
Liu Peijun said that the construction of a foreign discourse system with Chinese characteristics is related to the image of the country, and undertakes the important mission of serving the country's opening up to the outside world and building a community with a shared future for mankind. It is hoped that the Research Center for China's Foreign Discourse System will take on the important task of the times, have higher construction goals, focus on strategic priorities, and explore new means, new methods, and new paths for China's foreign discourse system; strengthen scientific research, continuously expand research fields, and strengthen research on different discourse categories and discourse categories; achieve better results, strengthen the integrated application of new language technology and artificial intelligence cutting-edge technology, and strengthen the discipline construction and talent training for foreign discourse system research; Multi-faceted support mechanism.
Chen Yiqun said that in the current complex international public opinion environment, expert think tanks play an important role in promoting exchanges and mutual learning between Chinese and foreign civilizations. It is hoped that expert think tanks will continue to promote the transformation of academic achievements, carry out research on the characteristics of regions and countries and some urgent problems we are currently facing in international communication, and further improve the accuracy and effectiveness of international communication; take the initiative to speak out, sing China's views, transform the language of policy and public opinion into easy-to-understand popular language, and better explain the "Chinese plan" and "Chinese wisdom" to overseas audiences, continue to influence influential people, strengthen exchanges and cooperation with international key think tanks, and expand the circle of international academic friends. It is expected that the Research Center for China's Foreign Discourse System will deepen the interdisciplinary research on foreign discourse, and make Chinese stories spread and sung loudly on a global scale with the help of digital, intelligent and industrialized means.
Xu Jun said that the construction of China's discourse system is a core component of the construction of China's independent knowledge system, and the realization of the real international transformation of China's discourse is creative and innovative, which puts forward new mission requirements for the current foreign language and translation circles. Translation plays an increasingly important role in the construction of China's foreign discourse system, which is not only a kind of language transformation and interpretation, but also a force for cultural construction. It is hoped that on the basis of the achievements in translation studies and discourse communication research, the research center will further strengthen interdisciplinary cooperation and integration, carry out leading research, and continuously enhance its academic and social influence.
At the meeting, representatives of the Department of Language and Information Management of the Ministry of Education and Tongji University signed an agreement to jointly establish the "Research Center for China's Foreign Discourse System". Focusing on the three basic fields of foreign discourse communication, national translation research, and discourse research with Chinese characteristics, the China Center for Foreign Discourse System is a research-oriented base jointly established and managed by both parties, focusing on the three basic fields of foreign discourse communication, national translation research, and Chinese characteristics discourse research, focusing on forward-looking, strategic, and systematic issues in the practice of foreign discourse in the era of artificial intelligence, so as to promote the improvement of international communication capacity and serve the global discourse capacity building.
More than 10 experts and scholars from Chinese and foreign universities and institutions gave keynote speeches from different perspectives around the theme of the symposium and combined with their respective research practices.
They said that there is a long way to go to tell China's stories to the world, spread China's voice, and show a real, three-dimensional and comprehensive China. With the goal of serving major-country diplomacy with Chinese characteristics, we should continue to explore the content, form, platform, and effect of communication, form a joint force, and continuously enhance the effectiveness of China's discourse with the outside world. With the help of digital technologies such as artificial intelligence, we should continuously improve China's global discourse ability under the exchange and mutual learning of Chinese and foreign civilizations, talk about the vivid practice of Chinese-style modernization, form an international discourse power that matches the mainland's comprehensive national strength and international status, and make new contributions to creating a new pattern of China's international communication.
The conference also had six sub-topics, and experts and scholars from the fields of foreign languages and communication studies conducted in-depth exchanges and discussions on topics such as the construction and theoretical innovation of foreign language discourse, the study of discourse with Chinese characteristics from the perspective of mutual learning between civilizations, the translation and communication path of foreign language empowered by technology, the frontier of multimodal discourse translation and communication methods, the construction of international discourse power and national translation research, and the research on the history of foreign discourse translation and communication.
