In 1978, Deng Xiaoping, the chief architect of reform and opening up, announced that China had decided to purchase equipment for two nuclear power plants from France, thus opening the prelude to the high starting point of nuclear power on the mainland.
As a landmark project of reform and opening up, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station was put into commercial operation on February 1 and May 6, 1994 after seven years of construction, opening a new page in the development of nuclear power in the mainland. Today, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station has been operating safely for 30 years, and the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Base has become an important landmark of nuclear power in the mainland and even in the world, with a steady stream of clean electricity being transmitted from here to Guangdong and Hong Kong every day.
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Station being put into commercial operation, the Daya Bay Nuclear Power WeChat official account launched the column "Times Huazhang|The Story of Daya Bay" to revisit the classic story and understand the development process. Every historical event, every advanced figure, every historical object, and every spirit of struggle represents the glorious course of Daya Bay, shows the dreams and pursuits, feelings and responsibilities of Daya Bay people, and guides generations of nuclear power people to move forward.
