Defendant Zhao Liuchao and victim Zhou Mouxia registered their marriage in 2011, and on July 7, 2023, due to emotional discord, they applied to the Marriage Registration Office of the Civil Affairs Bureau of Pingyu County, Henan Province for divorce by agreement. On the evening of July 30, 2023, Zhou Mouxia, accompanied by relatives and friends Zhou and other six people, agreed with Zhao Liuchao to meet at the gate of an industrial park in Guangzhou. After Zhao Liuchao arrived, he walked straight to Zhou Mouxia, and was stopped by Zhou and others, Zhao Liuchao stabbed Zhou, Zhou Mouxia and others with a sharp knife he carried, causing Zhou Mouxia to die and Zhou Mouxia and four others to be injured.
The court held that
Defendant Zhao Liuchao intentionally and unlawfully deprived others of their lives, causing one death, one minor injury, and three minor injuries, and his conduct constituted the crime of intentional homicide. Zhao Liuchao's subjective malice was great, the criminal methods were cruel, and the consequences were serious, and he should be severely punished, and the court made the above judgment in accordance with law.
More than 10 people, including some of the victims, their relatives, and the defendant's relatives, attended the announcement of the verdict.

The victim, Zhou Mouxia, was born in 1987 and is a native of Zhanjiang, Guangdong. Around 2008, Zhou Mouxia met and married Zhao Liuchao, a man from Henan, and had a son and a daughter.
On July 7, 2023, Zhou Mouxia filed for divorce due to her husband Zhao Liuchao's long-term domestic violence and submitted a divorce application to the civil affairs department. After that, Zhao Liuchao repeatedly forced the victim Zhou Mouxia to meet with him by telephone threats and other means, and threatened to kill his family. At about 23:00 on July 20, 2023, the defendant Zhao Liuchao stabbed Zhou Mouxia multiple times in critical parts such as the left chest of his upper body with a knife at the gate of an industrial park in Liwan District, Guangzhou City, causing her to die on the spot, and the four people who were traveling with Zhou Mouxia were also injured to varying degrees.

According to reports, Zhou Mouxia's sister said that Zhou Mouxia was more able to endure hardships, bought a car for her family, and bought a new house, but Zhao Liuchao often beat and scolded Zhou Mouxia. After Zhou Mouxia filed for divorce many times, Zhao Liuchao finally agreed. On July 7, 2023, the two parties submitted a divorce application to the civil affairs department in Zhao Mouchao's hometown of Pingyu County, Henan. Entering the cooling-off period of divorce, Zhao Liuchao harassed and threatened Zhou Mouxia many times, threatening to kill. On the 13th day of the cooling-off period for divorce, tragedy finally happened.
It is understood that after the two entered the cooling-off period for divorce, Zhao Liuchao repented, applied both soft and hard, and refused to divorce. On July 20, 2023, Zhao Liuchao asked Zhou Mouxia to meet again, "with a very tough attitude". Worried that Zhao Liuchao was violent, Zhou Mouxia called the police, but Zhao Liuchao was unwilling to go to the police station. At that time, Zhao Liuchao insisted on meeting.
In the end, under the threat of Zhao Liuchao, Zhou Mouxia agreed to meet. That night, Zhou Mouxia called her sister Zhou Mei and her brother and other five men to go to the vicinity of Zhao Liuchao's residence, that is, at the gate of an industrial park on Cuiyuan Road, Liwan District, Guangzhou City. While waiting for Zhao Liuchao on the side of the road, when Zhou Mouxia and her companions were still discussing how to deal with it, Zhao Liuchao called and learned that Zhou Mouxia and others had arrived, and Zhao Liuchao immediately arrived by electric car. Then tragedy struck.
