The site of the Weng'an Monkey Farm Conference
On December 31, 1934, the Long March of the Central Red Army arrived at Monkey Farm. In order to further eliminate differences, unify thinking, and clarify the strategic direction and course of action of the Red Army, the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee held a meeting at the residence of Song Weixin, a villager group in Songjiawan, Monkey Farm, which is known as the "Monkey Farm Conference" in history. The meeting criticized the erroneous proposition of Bogu and Li De for joining up with the Second and Sixth Red Army Corps, made a "Decision on the New Course of Action after Crossing the Yangtze River," reaffirmed the strategic task of the Liping Conference on "establishing a new Soviet base area in the Sichuan-Guizhou Border Region," and stipulated that "the Central Military Commission must make a report at the Politburo meeting on the selection of the operational policy and the time and place of the operation." This changed the situation in which Li De abolished the collective leadership of the Central Military Commission, suppressed different opinions, and arranged the work on his own.
