"This book stinks too much to be true. Mr. Wang, who lives in Luqiao District, Taizhou City, bought a batch of supplementary books from the Internet in November last year, but the books in his hand had a strong smell, which made him uncomfortable after a while, so he did not dare to give them to his children.
Mr. Wang, who realized that he had purchased a fake book, immediately reported the case, and the Luqiao police quickly set up a special team, starting from the clues received one after another, and searched for the initiator through major shopping platforms.
"The suspect is very cunning and will price these books at about 20% or even 7% off the genuine version, causing consumers to mistakenly think that they are buying genuine copies. Wang Rudong, deputy captain of the Food and Drug Ring Brigade of the Luqiao Public Security Bureau, introduced.
The police who handled the case clicked on the product link and found that most of the pirated books on sale were priced at "high discounts" on the basis of the price of genuine books, and the pricing would not differ too much from the genuine ones.
In this way, it not only hides the identity of pirated books and confuses consumers, but also increases sales. Due to their cheap prices and many types of sales, these pirated books occupy the forefront of shopping platform searches, seriously squeezing the sales space of genuine books.
"The production and sale of inferior pirated books not only infringes on the legitimate rights and interests of copyright owners, but also disrupts the market, forming a vicious circle in which bad money drives out good money, and poor production materials are more likely to harm the user's body. After further investigation, the Luqiao police found that an online store selling pirated books was operated by the suspects Ding and Liu, and the source of the pirated books was a book wholesaler surnamed Zhang, and Zhang had a superior wholesaler, and there was a "superior" above the wholesaler.
Although the sales process is intertwined, after the Luqiao police combed through it, all the pirated books pointed to an underground printing factory in Shandong, and its wholesalers and sales online stores were located in six cities in Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong and other three provinces.
Crazy profit margins
After completely grasping this criminal chain of pirated books, the Luqiao police divided into multiple routes in February and March this year, and collected the network in batches in Hunan, Jiangsu, Shandong and other places, and arrested seven criminal suspects including Ding and Zhang in one fell swoop, and successfully completely cut off this criminal chain suspected of producing and selling infringing and pirated books.
At the scene, the police seized more than 260,000 suspected infringing and pirated books, and the amount involved amounted to more than 800 yuan.
After interrogation, it was learned that the price of the pirated book on the platform was 25 to 30 yuan. Pirated books, on the other hand, are made from low-cost, low-quality materials, with an actual cost of only 5 to 6 yuan and a profit margin of up to 400%.
