But the U.S. doesn't want to see it surpassed, especially when we develop chips, the U.S. is trying every means to obstruct it, restricting equipment, materials, software, etc., and recently has been eyeing the underlying architecture of chips, but it can't stop it at all.
In recent years, the scope of chip restrictions in the United States has been expanding, from adding Huawei and SMIC to the list of "entities" for individual companies, and applying for licenses for cooperation with them, to restricting chip-related exports for the entire industry.
From the U.S. fighting alone to uniting allies to form group restrictions, it has successively promoted the Quadripartite Alliance of Chips and tripartite agreements.
It can be said that the United States is trying to obstruct us from developing high-end chip manufacturing. One of the most typical is the restriction of ASML lithography machines, which was previously restricted to high-end EUV lithography machines, and later restricted to mid-to-high-end immersion DUVs.
Under such a strict blockade by the United States, it is even more difficult for us to solve the problem of high-end chip manufacturing. But what they didn't expect was that it only took more than 3 years for Huawei to realize the return of its self-developed Kirin, and it was indeed produced for the mainland industry.
You must know that chip manufacturing involves a lot of industrial chains, which cannot be achieved by one company. It is conceivable that the return of Kirin chips is not only Huawei's efforts, but also the joint efforts of many domestic related chip industry chain enterprises.
In other words, we have created a non-American industrial chain, including chip architecture, design software, equipment materials, and so on.
The most important thing is that Huawei has done a very good job of secrecy, no matter how the US investigates and tests it, so far it has not figured out how the Kirin is produced, which makes the US very depressed, so it began to expand the restrictions again.
Some time ago, the US side once again escalated the ban to strictly investigate loopholes in the export of equipment and other equipment to prevent re-transshipment after export.
Not only that, according to the news recently released by the US media Reuters, the US Department of Commerce said in a letter to members of Congress that it is investigating the risks caused by the mainland's use of RISC-V chip technology, and the excuse is still the so-called "national security".
Chip design should start from the selection of the underlying instruction set architecture, RISC-V is a new architecture in recent years, before the world there were two mainstream chip architectures, namely X86 and ARM, but both of them belong to enterprises.
Among them, the X86 architecture belonged to the American company Intel, and the ARM architecture originally belonged to the British company ARM, but was later acquired by Japan's SoftBank. To use both architectures, you need to get their authorization and pay a fee.
Although RISC-V originated in American universities, it is a completely open standard that can be downloaded and used by anyone in the world.
For the importance of chip architecture, Ni Guangnan, an academician of the Continental Academy of Engineering, has long begun to call for and vigorously promote the development of RISC-V architecture chips in domestic enterprises, because this can not only solve the problem of limitations, but also make the chip go global.
Sure enough, when Huawei was sanctioned by the United States, it was indeed restricted. Therefore, Huawei had to sell the X86 server business, and ARM said that it would not limit it, but in the end it did not authorize Huawei's V9 architecture.
Therefore, Ni Guangnan really has a vision, and has long realized the seriousness of the problem, and domestic enterprises have developed RISC-V.
Among them, Alibaba's Pingtou Semiconductor started the earliest and has launched a number of chips based on RISC-V architecture such as Xuantie, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences has also developed Xiangshan based on RISC-V architecture, and its performance has reached the world's first-class level.
Due to the early layout of our company in RISC-V R&D, not only half of the senior members of the RISC-V International Foundation are Chinese enterprises, such as Alibaba, Huawei, ZTE, UNISOC, etc., and half of the global RISC-V architecture chips are from Chinese enterprises.
We have basically achieved the dominance of the RISC-V architecture, and even American companies such as Intel, Qualcomm, and Google have continued to join.
It can be said that with the active promotion of our Chinese enterprises, the RISC-V architecture is becoming the third mainstream architecture in the world alongside X86 and ARM. And it is precisely because the US side sees this aspect, which is why it wants to further restrict our development.
In this regard, some foreign media directly said that the United States can't stop it at all, because in order to maintain neutrality in the RISC-V architecture, the headquarters has been moved from the United States to Switzerland, and Chinese companies account for the majority of the RISC-V Foundation and have a certain right to speak!
However, the US side will not play its cards according to the routine at all, and there may be some kind of moth, and we still have to be vigilant against this!
