Recently, Amazon released new requirements for consumer products with button batteries, which are effective immediately.
Sellers who receive these compliance requests primarily sell products that involve coin cell batteries. According to Amazon's requirements, products containing coin cell batteries need to submit relevant documentation, otherwise the link will be removed. For safety reasons, this law now applies to batteries and all consumer products containing batteries.
Amazon suddenly introduced new regulations on button batteries, and the affected sellers immediately fell into a panic. The scope of this new regulation is very wide, and some sellers have marked the products of their entire store.
How do you ensure compliance?
When you receive a compliance request, you need to take immediate action to ensure compliance:
1. If the product has a button battery: you need to submit a GCC certificate (a statement document indicating that it has passed the UL 4200A standard test), a product packaging drawing with a barcode, and a UL 4200A experimental test report that meets the ISO17025 approval (including product pictures, which proves that it is the same as the listed product);
2. If the product does not have a button battery: check whether the listing contains sensitive words, and then file an appeal after deletion, declare the use and material of your product, and have clearly informed consumers that it does not contain button batteries, and you do not need to provide documentary proof, and you can generally pass.
What is GCC Certificate?
The GCC is a certificate that a manufacturer or importer of a general-purpose product (not a children's product) certifies in writing that its product complies with those applicable rules when the consumer product safety rules apply. A GCC certificate is essentially a self-declaration issued by the manufacturer or importer to certify that the product has been tested and complies with the relevant CPSC and ASTM safety standards.
ANSI/UL4200A-2023 is the standard for GCC certification.
What is UL4200A?
In September 2023, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) voted to approve UL 4200A-2023 as a mandatory consumer product safety standard for consumer products containing button batteries, codified in 16CFR part 1263 due to the accidental ingestion of button batteries by children in the United States. Similarly, if a consumer product uses a coin cell or coin battery, this standard update notice applies.
UL4200A aims to assess the risk of use of consumer products containing button/coin batteries, taking into account the risk of harm from ingestion that may be touched by children during daily use. UL 4200A systematically requires products containing button batteries from many aspects, such as structure, testing, warning labels (product body and packaging), and instructions.
It is important to note that the report should contain the following information:
1. Battery compartments containing replaceable coin or coin batteries must be secured in such a way that they require the use of tools or at least two independent and simultaneous hand movements to open.
2. The battery compartment of a coin or coin battery must not allow such batteries to be touched or dislodged due to normal use and abuse testing.
3. The entire product must be packaged with a warning.
How do I submit compliance documents?

2 In the lower-right corner, under Manage your compliance, click Product compliance requests. To provide a file, click Provide File; To appeal, click Appeal Request and select the appropriate Reason for appeal from the drop-down menu
3 To upload a file, drag and drop the file, or open a browse window to select the file. Click Submit to send your submission for Amazon review.
Finally, the U.S. censorship is particularly stringent due to the entry of products containing button batteries into the country's market. If valid compliance documents are not provided in a timely manner, the link will be removed by Amazon.
