Shashiyang Wharf, outside the Jingjiang River embankment, is no more than 2 kilometers long and about hundreds of meters wide. The river is surging and boats come and go, but there is no pier here. Every night, the lights are on, the residents gather, set up stalls, shout and shout, and the dust of industry is washed away, leaving only the shore green and green, leisure and comfort.
The roads here are newly built, the trees and flowers are newly planted, but the houses are very old, and from the self-description of an old factory, we listen to the stories of those old years......

I am the "oldest" house in Yang Wharf, born in 1927, a four-story red brick house packing factory.
As early as 1895, my hometown, Shashi, Jingzhou, became one of the first four major inland ports in China to open to the outside world, and many countries successively set up consulates, built wharves, and opened trading houses here. In the middle of the 20th century, a number of well-known enterprise factories such as "Vitality 28" and Baiyun Electromechanical were also built along the Yangtze River, which were very lively.
However, with the rapid development of highways and railways, some enterprises on the wharf were shut down, factories were abandoned, and industrial sewage and domestic sewage were discharged into the Yangtze River. The environment here has become very dirty and dilapidated, people don't want to come here, and I stood alone on the dock and was sad for a long time......
Until that day, the good news came - in 2016, Jingzhou City implemented the requirements of the Yangtze River protection, put the environmental improvement along the Yangtze River on the agenda, and the construction of the Yangwharf Historical and Cultural District began to brew. When I first heard the news, I was thrilled.
Because this means that the foreign pier in front of my house will be reborn!
Jingzhou is beautiful, it looks beautiful, and we must leave a clean and beautiful Yangtze River for future generations.
——On April 25, 2018, General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected Hubei and boarded a ship from Jingzhou Port to inspect the Yangtze River.
In recent years, under the construction guidance of "joint protection and no large-scale development", Jingzhou has built the Yangwharf Historical and Cultural District into a "Jingzhou Demonstration" that integrates shoreline renovation and protection, ecological environment care, historical building maintenance, and cultural and artistic protection through protective planning and repair of historical buildings and ecological environment improvement, so that the former "industrial rust belt" has been transformed into today's "life show belt", which has completely changed the riverside style of Jingzhou.
At first, I thought that the workers who came to restore the shoreline of the pier would tear me down, after all, I was an abandoned packing factory...... But unexpectedly, they did not tear it down! but "dressed" me in beautiful clothes, and retained the original structure, and the "Shashi Memory" exhibition hall was rebuilt on my first floor, which houses the history of Shashi from 1876 to 1949.
In this way, I once again became a witness to the rejuvenation of the foreign wharf.
When you come here again, you will have the feeling of "walking two kilometers through two hundred years".
The former foreign wharf has now been transformed into a cultural and creative industry park integrating cultural display, creative workshop, tourism and leisure, riverside sightseeing and other formats, and there is an endless stream of people coming here every day to play.
Among them, there are neighbors who miss the time-honored brands, and the old brands displayed in the cultural and creative park, such as Vitality 28, Lao Tianbao, Lao Tongzhen, Lao Wannian, and Lao Danfeng, make them feel more cordial;
There are students who are curious about Shashi Wharf and industrial culture, strolling through the Cultural and Creative Park, looking at the surrounding ventilation chimneys, various models of merchant ships, and restored factory equipment...... The eyes are full of history;
There are city workers who have unloaded the fatigue of the day, strolling among the night market vendors, indulging in the songs of taverns, and soothing the hearts of mortals with delicious food.
The wharf is just a microcosm of the comprehensive management of the Yangtze River basin in Jingzhou. In recent years, Jingzhou has conscientiously recited the cross-cutting formula of "fighting, prohibiting, investigating, building, allocating, creating, delineating, clearing, building, and embedding", and has cleaned up and banned 340 illegal wharves and vacated 52 kilometers of the Yangtze River shoreline. According to the principle of greening as much as possible, the wharf greening will be integrated with the construction of shelter forests and urban landscape parks, and more than 180 acres of afforestation and greening will be completed, 350 high-standard greening will be completed, more than 30 thousand tree seedlings will be planted, and the greening area will exceed 1.05 million square meters.
