The woman's fever did not go away for several days

Positive for novel bunyavirus

It is related to the "little black dot" on the thigh

Ms. Wang (not her real name) from Hangzhou loves outdoor sports and often goes hiking with friends. In the past few days, she has not been able to go anywhere! Because the fever has not gone away for several days, and it is accompanied by headaches, nausea, thighs and other symptoms......

At first, she thought it was just a "cold" and took cold medicine on her own. But the symptoms did not subside for several days, so he came to the fever clinic of the First People's Hospital of Fuyang District, Hangzhou City.

According to Ms. Wang's account, the outpatient doctor arranged relevant examinations for her. The results of the examination showed that Ms. Wang's white blood cell index was 2.4×10^9/L and the platelet index was 80×10^9/L, which was far lower than the normal level.

When the doctor asked about the medical history, Ms. Wang's words aroused the doctor's vigilance. She said, "It hurts a little bit here, but only this side hurts." After careful examination, the doctor found that there was a small black spot on the inner thigh of Ms. Wang, considering that spring is the season of high incidence of insect-borne diseases, the fever symptoms caused by insect bites cannot be ruled out, and the sudden drop of platelets is accelerated, and the doctor recommended hospitalization.

After being admitted to the Department of Infectious Diseases, Tang Junhua, the director of the department, asked Ms. Wang about her medical history again during her ward rounds, and Ms. Wang mentioned that she had been bitten by a tick while climbing a mountain, so she briefly treated the wound at that time and did not go to the hospital for treatment.

Based on Ms. Wang's experience and condition, the doctor suspected that she was infected with the new bunyavirus, so he took Ms. Wang's blood sample and sent it to the District Center for Disease Control and Prevention for testing. The results of the test results of the district CDC showed a positive test for the new bunyavirus, confirming the doctor's suspicions.

A tick bite wound on Ms. Wang's thigh

Beware of the new bunyavirus (tick disease)

Severe can be fatal

"What is this new virus?" Ms. Wang incredulous.

According to the doctor, the disease caused by the new bunyavirus is named fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome, also known as "tick bite fever" and "tick disease", which occurs frequently from April to October every year, mostly in young adults. It is mainly transmitted by the bite of a tick that carries the virus.

After infection, the main clinical symptoms are fever, fatigue, anorexia, etc., and a few cases are critically ill, with impaired consciousness, skin ecchymosis, gastrointestinal bleeding, pulmonary hemorrhage, etc., and death due to shock, respiratory failure, diffuse intravascular coagulation and other multi-organ failure. After infection with the new bunyavirus, the incubation period is generally 1-2 weeks. After the onset of the incubation period, most people have symptoms that are not too severe and can resolve on their own. "Although most of the cases are mild, severe cases progress quickly and can be fatal. ”

Hearing this, Ms. Wang couldn't help but feel afraid, glad that she was not careless, and came to the hospital for examination and treatment as soon as possible. After a week of treatment, Ms. Wang recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

The doctor reminded that there are more than 200 causes of fever to be investigated, mainly caused by four categories: infectious diseases, neoplastic diseases, non-infectious inflammatory diseases, and other diseases. It is necessary to go through a systematic examination to find the cause, so it is recommended that you go to the fever clinic if you have fever symptoms.

Patients with fever (armpit temperature ≥ 37.3°C) and/or respiratory symptoms or suspected infectious disease should be referred to a fever clinic if they have any of the following:

●Fever, cough, sore throat, nasal congestion, runny nose, decreased sense of smell (taste), diarrhea, rash, jaundice, conjunctival hyperemia, or acute exacerbation of pre-existing chronic lung disease, with or without fever, within 72 hours;

●History of contact with a similar patient or suspected infected animal within two weeks prior to the onset of illness;

●People who have close contact with the patient (i.e., people who live, live, work, study, or otherwise come into contact with the patient) have similar symptoms;

●Clustered onset;

●Have a history of travel or residence in epidemic areas, and have the risk of other suspected infectious diseases.

The doctor emphasized that there are many patients who have been bitten by ticks recently, and some patients have simply dealt with them at first, and then they have uncomfortable symptoms before going to the hospital for treatment.

Again, be careful when you go to grass, bushes or wooded areas!

If the tick bite is firm or too deep, it is recommended to go directly to the doctor!
