Readers on the track

Xizi, 32, one of the millions of Chongqing railers every day, likes to use her phone's camera to focus on people reading books on the railroad line on her commute. April 23 is the 29th World Book Day, let's follow Xizi's lens to see the orbital readers.

—The "Spiritual Corner" in the Track—

Xizi is a Xinjiang native who has lived in Chongqing for 14 years, was admitted to Chongqing for university, stayed after graduation, and is currently engaged in brand planning. As a "migrant worker", she takes the rail transit every day, going back and forth between Erling Station and Chongqing North Railway Station South Square Station.

Xizi is also a photography enthusiast, and likes to record the fireworks in Chongqing, and also likes to record moments on the commute or in life, and make them into a series and post them on social platforms. Photographing the readers on the track is one of her great pleasures on her commute to work.

Readers on the track

"Whether it is on the seat or in the corner of the carriage, you can see the shadow of the reader, who calmly spreads out a book and concentrates on reading in the hustle and bustle, which is a special existence. I call it the 'spiritual corner' of the track. Xizi said that she once followed a blogger who photographed subway readers every day, and she is also a commuter reading enthusiast, reading novels, essays, and light-hearted history books on the commute. So, starting from 2022, she slowly used the camera to record the reading people she met in the carriage on the road.

Xizi said that it is necessary to look at luck to photograph the readers on the track, because he only shoots on the way to commute or travel, so he has photographed nearly 20 readers so far.

Flowing "Reading Landscape."

In Xizi's shot, there are students who read extracurricular books, young people who are preparing for public entrance examinations or professional exams, middle-aged people who read novels, and mothers who read books with their children.

"Overall, students and young people are reading more books on the rail transit. Xizi said that what she remembered deeply was that once she was reading in the carriage with an e-reader, and when she turned her head, she saw that the person in the seat next to her was also reading, and they looked at each other without speaking, and then continued to read their own books, with a very subtle tacit understanding. On another occasion, two students, a boy and a girl, stood facing each other in the carriage, reading the extracurricular books in their hands, which smelled very bookish, and a middle-aged man was taking notes carefully while reading...... These are very ordinary but moving moments, a flowing "reading landscape".

— Will continue to record —

Xizi laughs at herself as a super big "I person" (note: introvert), and at the same time, she is afraid that her sudden accosting will disturb everyone, so she has no interaction with the readers on the track. Xizi said: "In the era of fragmented information flying all over the sky and human hands and electronic devices, it is a very rare and remarkable thing to be able to immerse and read in depth on the way to commute. ”

Xizi said that in the future, she will continue to record the "readers on the track", and hopes that more people will pick up books in the future, use the fragmented time to read, and enjoy the precious moment of riding the rail transit.
