Through the ordeal
Shuai Mengqi has had an extraordinary experience in his life. A native of Hanshou County, Hunan, she was born in 1897 and joined the Communist Party in 1926 to participate in and lead the peasant movement in her hometown. In 1927, she was assigned by the organization to study in the Soviet Union, and returned to China in 1930. Later, he engaged in underground work in Wuhan and Shanghai. In 1932, she was arrested by the Kuomintang reactionaries while organizing a strike of silk factory workers in Shanghai. In the Kuomintang prison in Nanjing, the enemy tortured her to extract a confession, pressed the bar to add six bricks, crushed her leg bones, and she was in pain to the heart and lungs, and fainted. But Shuai Mengqi was still tight-lipped and did not divulge a single trace of party secrets. Annoyed and angry, the enemy tied her upside down and gagged her, and poured kerosene water into her nose three times, causing Shuai Mengqi to bleed. Since then, Shuai Mengqi has lost his vision in his left eye.
In 1937, when the Kuomintang and the Communist Party cooperated, the eldest sister was rescued from prison by the party organization, and continued to adhere to the revolutionary struggle, serving as the secretary general of the Hunan Provincial Working Committee and a member of the Hunan Provincial Party Committee. After the founding of the People's Republic of China, she served as a member of the Standing Committee of the All-China Women's Federation and head of the organization department, and did organizational work for a long time. During the ten-year storm, Shuai Mengqi was almost blind in his right eye due to suffering.

After the Third Plenary Session of the 11th CPC Central Committee, she returned to work as an advisor to the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee and a member of the Standing Committee of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, making new contributions to the party's organizational construction. In 1982, she was elected as a member of the Central Advisory Committee, and in 1985, at the National Party Congress, she resigned as a member of the Central Advisory Committee. After retiring from her leadership post, Sister Shuai has struggled for the cause of revolution and construction of the Chinese people for more than half a century, but she still tries her best to give full play to her residual enthusiasm, set strict demands on herself, and set an example with her words and deeds everywhere, and is respected and loved by the people.
Raising offspring
Sister Shuai Mengqi has a long reputation for taking care of the orphans of martyrs and caring for the next generation. When she was working in Hunan during the war years, she found the children of many important leaders of our party, such as Liu Shaoqi's children and Guo Liang's children, and sent these children to Yan'an by all means and through various secret channels.
In Yan'an, Sister Shuai also adopted the orphans of martyrs such as Shen Shaofan and Yang Kuangan, and took care of the children of martyrs such as Huang Gongluo and Chen Tanqiu. Sister Shuai has raised so many children, but her own daughter was killed by the enemy.

It was in 1932 after Shuai Da Mei was arrested in Shanghai, and the traitor betrayed him that Shuai Mengqi had a 13-year-old girl. The enemy caught the child in Hanshou County, Hunan, and poisoned her to death. Talking about this, the eldest sister said sadly and angrily: "The enemy is too poisonous. The eldest sister said: "But I am a revolutionary, and I still have to practice my oath to join the party and fight for communism all my life." When I think about it like this, my heart is more relaxed. In prison, I thought that as long as I lived, I would have many children. There are so many children of revolutionaries!" Since then, Shuai Mengqi has poured all his love into the descendants of revolutionaries.
Shuai Mengqi believed that educating our revolutionary descendants well was a major matter, and she said: "At that time, the imperialist and Kuomintang reactionaries were very powerful and killed very badly, and the Communist Party of any country did not die as much as the leaders of our Communist Party of China. We still need a lot of young people, and we can't do without the next generation. ”
At that time, Shuai Mengqi fully estimated the arduous and long-term nature of the revolution, so he spared no effort to protect and educate the descendants of the revolution.

During the war years, Shuai Mengqi cared about the descendants of revolutionaries, and after the victory of the revolution, the eldest sister, as always, regarded the education of the next generation as her own responsibility.
Sister Shuai has established a close bond with the children. After retiring, this kind of correspondence became more frequent. The teenagers at the school often visited her and wrote letters to her. She took advantage of these opportunities to tell the children about the past and the future, so that the children could understand the hard-won achievements of New China, and encouraged the children to work hard to learn scientific and cultural knowledge and establish lofty ideals.
Shuai Mengqi said: "As the saying goes: 'It is not enough to learn well for a thousand days, but it is more than enough to learn badly'. Young people must set high ideals. However, ideals are inseparable from hard work. In 1984, I visited the Memorial Hall of Premier Zhou in Tianjin in Tianjin and received a profound education. I think young people should go and see it. Premier Zhou has carried out so many outstanding revolutionary activities since he was a teenager. All this is because the suffering and fate of the motherland and the oppression of imperialism have aroused his strong love and hatred! History educates people. At that time, we persisted in the anti-Japanese war in the no-man's land created by the Japanese invaders in Wutai Mountain, and we could only eat some horse food every day, which was very difficult. A few years ago, I went to Shanxi Jin Temple and saw the people admiring the beautiful 'noon lotus'. In 1946, when Comrade Ye Jianying went to Beijing to negotiate with the Kuomintang, he lived in a high-end guest house in Cuimingzhuang, and there was no heating. When the whole country was just liberated, the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee only had a broken car owned by Comrade An Ziwen, which sometimes broke down after walking a few steps. What is Beijing like now? Aren't these the results of our sacrifice and struggle? Aren't they ironclad proof that the communist ideal will inevitably triumph?"
Shuai Mengqi deeply realized that the ideal lies in struggle. As long as we work hard, the communist ideal will inevitably be realized. If we leave hard work and blindly pursue comfort, our ideals will never be realized.
Sister Shuai said earnestly: "The construction period also requires struggle and sacrifice. Jiang Zhuying and Luo Jianfu are such characters. In the past, I raised and cared for several children of martyrs, who studied hard, worked hard, and worked hard in their respective posts. I am convinced that on all fronts of building the great rivers and mountains of the motherland, more heroes and heroes will inevitably appear!"
For a period of time, there was a strong reaction in society to the issue of the children of high-ranking cadres, and the eldest sister Shuai heard a lot of feedback, and she solemnly pointed out: "Everyone is equal before the law, and no one who commits a crime can escape the punishment of the law! Some young people lack revolutionary conviction and lofty ideals, and this issue should be given great attention." In this regard, some of our Communist Party members and party cadres, especially senior cadres, should set an example for young people!"
Sister Shuai also said: "Before liberation, if you participate in the party and make a revolution, you will be in danger of being killed at any time. At that time, there was no remuneration for doing revolution, on the contrary, it was necessary to raise funds for its own activities. In 1935, Comrade Jia Lian of the Northern Bureau lost contact with the party, and in order to help several comrades maintain their lives and to carry out propaganda activities, he reluctantly sold his beloved son to the countryside of Tianjin in exchange for 50 yuan. Now that our party is the ruling party, not only will there be no danger of killing the head in the revolution, but from the central authorities to the grassroots level, it will have the right to shoulder some responsibility. Most people are doing a good job, but some people abuse their power for personal gain, greedily build houses for their children, relatives and friends, raise their salaries, and take advantage of them, thus seriously damaging the party's prestige!"

What is the use of those who abuse their power for personal gain, to take so many advantages and occupy so many houses? Because the conditions are too superior, their children are also pampered and pampered, and they only know how to eat, drink, and have fun, and some of them go astray. History is unforgiving! These comrades should do a good job in carrying out criticism and self-criticism, strengthen party spirit, and avoid further corruption! The masses attach importance to reality, and if you change it, they will naturally be full of confidence!"
Sister Shuai is strict with others, and even stricter with her relatives. She taught her relatives not to engage in specialization. Some relatives begged Shuai Meng Qi to speak out many times for their own affairs, but she not only did not say it, but also criticized them, and never took advantage of her special status to do things. If there is a problem, the eldest sister also reports to the relevant departments for investigation and handling through normal channels, and never uses improper channels.
Once, a relative who worked in a film studio reported to Sister Shuai that the film studio asked her to act in a "bed scene", but she resolutely refused to comply, hid and did not go to work. Sister Shuai reported the matter to the relevant units, and also criticized the mistake of relatives not going to work without authorization. The handsome eldest sister has a niece, and the eldest sister is very strict with her, never allowing her aunt to help her wash clothes and do chores, and ask her to do it herself. Some people complained that Sister Shuai "did not recognize her six relatives", and Sister Shuai said, let them complain, Communist Party members must not use the power and position in their hands to seek personal interests for themselves and their children, relatives and friends.

She is usually afraid of trouble with the organization, never makes any personal requests, and is diligent and thrifty in her own life, but selflessly donates the money she saves to education and other social welfare undertakings. ”
In 1981, when a flood broke out in Shuai Mengqi's hometown, a small school was washed away, and when the eldest sister heard the news, she immediately sent 5,000 yuan to help the school build a school building; the Hunan Provincial Committee of the Communist Youth League set up a 'Youth Self-Taught Talent Fund Committee,' and the eldest sister donated 2,000 yuan; in 1987, at the invitation of Comrade Wang Zhen, Shuai Mengqi participated in a forum on mobilizing the whole society to care for and support the education work. After returning, he immediately donated 500 yuan to the China Primary and Secondary School Preschool Teachers Award Foundation. In addition, Shuai Mengqi also mobilized many people to contribute money and strength to cultivate the next generation. Sister Shuai has not only spent a lot of money on educating the next generation, but also in many ways. Sister Shuai has donated a lot of money for the country, education, and social public undertakings, but her life is very frugal, and everything that can be mended is never thrown away easily.

In 1985, Shuai Mengqi resigned from her position in the Central Advisory Committee. Although she was blind, she lived a fulfilling life. She asked the staff to read the documents and newspapers so that they could keep abreast of the party's principles and policies and publicize them.
When you are old, the strings should not be stretched too tightly, and you should combine work and rest. Shuai Mengqi often listened to the literary and artistic programs broadcast on the radio, insisted on playing Baduanjin every day, took a walk, and sometimes went to the park. In her later nineties, she can still talk eloquently, with quick thinking, clear organization, and clear memory.
Shuai Mengqi's secretary summed up her health and longevity in twelve words: exercise often, use your brain more, eat lightly, and worry less.
The eldest sister had a serious leg injury, but she forced herself to walk, and every night she would sit quietly for a while, recalling what she had learned and heard during the day, and thinking about what she had done. Many things have passed for a long time, and Shuai Mengqi can still remember eight or nine without leaving ten. It is said that the reason why the eldest sister has a good memory is that she often has to memorize the content of some documents when she is engaged in underground work, and second, she is diligent in using her brain and using the right methods.
Shuai Mengqi's usual diet is very simple, two dishes and one soup at noon, mostly vegetarian dishes, drink some porridge in the morning and evening, eat some bean curd and meat floss.
