Recently, a fraud case targeting Chinese students shocked the whole network!

According to Thai media Khaosod English, a 22-year-old Chinese female student (hereinafter referred to as Xiao A) has just gone to Australia to study for 2 months before being targeted by a fraud gang.

Through a series of fraudulent methods, the criminal gang coerced Xiao A to transfer money (totaling about 1.5 million yuan) several times, lured her to Thailand, and then demanded a ransom of 8 million yuan from her parents.

After being blackmailed, Little A's parents checked their daughter's bank account and soon discovered that something was unusual.

They found that about 1.5 million yuan of study abroad funds for their daughter had been transferred to other personal accounts several times.

They immediately contacted the Thai Association for Crime Victim Assistance to help trace their daughter's whereabouts.

Through investigation, the local police found that Xiao A entered Suvarnabhumi International Airport in Thailand on April 13, 2024. The next day, she took a taxi to a hotel near the airport for a night. After that, the clue about Xiao A's whereabouts was broken.

At around 10 a.m. on April 17, Xiao A called his mother to ask for money.

The mother said that during the call, a man's voice came from the phone, threatening to force Xiao A to shoot a pornographic video and sell her to Cambodia for organ harvesting if she was not paid.

Xiao A then took a taxi from Bangkok's Ladkrabang area to Ekkamai, then to the Sri Racha district of Chonburi province and returned to Bangkok from Laem Cha Bang on the 19th.

On the evening of April 20, the Bangkok police safely found Xiao A.

Fraud exposed

The investigation revealed that the scam began in February this year, when Xiao A had just arrived to study in Australia.

There are a total of three scammers contacted by Xiao A. The first scammer posed as a staff member of a telecommunications operator, then forwarded the call to a second scammer posing as a government agency, and finally to a third scammer posing as a police officer. They told Little A,

Little A took the bait like this.

Subsequently, Xiao A was asked to send money to the account designated by the scammer several times, but during this period, a sum of 500,000 yuan was not approved because the amount was too high. Next, the scammer decides to lure her to Thailand to do it again.

The reason why Xiao A had to go to Thailand was that the criminals claimed that they could help her through their local connections to avoid legal punishment without leaving a criminal record, otherwise she would be sent to justice.

It is difficult for the police to gather evidence

Thai police say most of these cases occur overseas and are often targeted at Chinese students in the United Kingdom, the United States and Australia. Most of the victims were from wealthy families.

However, despite the numerous cases of such scams, it is difficult for the authorities to collect evidence and follow up on the cases, as the criminals often threaten and intimidate the victims to delete their information. In this case, the police must wait until they have clear evidence before proceeding to the next step.

Fortunately, in this case, Xiao A was not physically harmed, but it will inevitably leave psychological trauma and all kinds of negative emotions, I hope she can get out of the haze as soon as possible.

All Chinese and international students should be vigilant and beware of being deceived.
