Let the avant-garde art "walk" in the country classroom

author:Rizhao Daily

At the foot of Tiantai Mountain, the cherry blossoms are colorful, and the spring is beautiful. Passing through the idyllic Xiayuan Village, a rural primary school stands quietly at the foot of the mountain. In the bright classrooms, the children are already sitting neatly, waiting for the upcoming "art caravan".

At a time when art museums are gradually becoming "social classrooms", more and more families have begun to use art venues as research bases to broaden their children's horizons with art. So, in rural campuses where the region is relatively remote and aesthetic education resources are scarce, how should children experience avant-garde art "immersively"?

The plan of the Rizhao Art Museum is to "move" the art classroom into the countryside.

On April 18, the museum organized a group of "post-90s" aesthetic education volunteers to walk into the Tiantaishan Campus of the Central Primary School of Taoda Town, Donggang District, to bring the "photosynthesis of art" public aesthetic education volunteer service to this rural campus, which is the third stop of this year's series of activities. As before, the event was packed into the village with a rich experience, just to "give the much-needed artistic nourishment to rural children".

Before the start of the course, the aesthetic education volunteers carefully arranged the "Aesthetic Education Activity Room" in the school, arranged an "Exhibition of Ancient Chinese Famous Paintings (High Imitation)", placed the donated equipment and toys for aesthetic education in advance in a corner of the room, and placed the production materials required for this activity on each desk. In order to allow children to immerse themselves in the artistic atmosphere with richer scenes, the Municipal Art Museum has made meticulous design and preparation in every detail, from exhibition boards, posters, high-imitation paintings, to courseware, wires, wooden boards, and gloves required for the course.

Every time, when the "caravan of art" drives into the school, it is like a sumptuous "holiday feast" for the children, and this time is no exception. As Qin Mingxuan, deputy director of the Municipal Art Museum, said before the start of the course: "Our classroom is completely free, and we hope that every child can give full play to their imagination and make art 'unlimited'." ”

In order to fully mobilize the enthusiasm of the children, in the "icebreaking" session before the start of the course, Qin Hao, an aesthetic education volunteer, dissipated the children's nervousness through interactive games with their reaction ability, quickly "mingled" with them, and brought each other's hearts closer. In the analysis of ancient Chinese famous paintings, the aesthetic education volunteers used idioms to guide the creation of situations, and carefully analyzed the "Eight Horses" by the Qing Dynasty painter Lang Shining, and vividly told the children about the most unique "combination of Chinese and Western" painting style in traditional Chinese painting from the aspects of creative techniques, character biographies, color composition, etc. The children listened attentively and were fascinated by the different looks of the horses.

Subsequently, in the expectant eyes of the children, the series of courses "I Draw with the Master" officially began. The theme of this course is "Giacometti and the Walking Man", and the wire winding art, which is most suitable for inspiring children's creation, is used as a presentation method to simplify the thick art history, so that children can perceive the artistic concept and life process of the master sculptor Giacometti in a hands-on fun experience.

"What was your first feeling when you saw this 'walking man'?" In the classroom, volunteer Qin Hao displayed Giacometti's works on the screen in the form of pictures and texts, guiding the children to depict their feelings with the first vision. Giacometti's work is unfamiliar to the children, but they can feel the power of it. Faced with the slender sculpture, many children said that it was strange and peculiar, and some children said that it was "very powerful". When Qin Hao took out the wire winding work made with the style of Giacometti's work as a sample, soon a child raised his hand and answered, "This is a person who is singing." ”

After explaining in detail the process of Giacometti's work and the changes in style, Qin Hao introduced the production method of wire winding, and guided the children to use their imagination to make their own "walking people" with wooden boards, iron wires and tin foil.

Although most of the children were new to wire winding, they quickly became proficient. With the help of the volunteers, the children's hands flew around, and the "miniature sculptures" of different shapes soon jumped in front of them, and the wrapping of tin foil once again gave these shapes a more three-dimensional creation.

"I made a little man playing football, made a small round ball out of tin foil on a wooden board, and pinched the wire out of the motion of kicking the ball. Although the two screws of the wooden board need to be wound at the same time in the teacher's example work, Wang Chen, a third-grader, showed off her work by making a separate ball and integrating her love into the work.

On the other side of the classroom, 9-year-old Sun Haoyu quickly made a three-dimensional figure with a very surrealist style, and under the guidance of volunteer teachers, he also made a "balloon" out of red clay on the basis of his work. "The most rewarding thing today is getting to know Giacometti as an artist and completing a satisfactory work. ”

Aesthetic education is the best way to stimulate children's creativity. In the classroom, the children were engrossed in creation, helping each other, communicating with each other, exerting their imagination and freely expressing their rich inner world. Some of the little people on the desks are exercising, some are singing, some are dancing, some are celebrating birthdays, and some are walking on the way from school...... The children poured their beautiful world into the works, and the silver iron wires and glittering tin foil intertwined into a glittering and colorful artistic world.

The art course was broadcast live on the "Digital Aesthetic Education Live Platform", and children from rural primary schools in Donggang District, such as Xinxing Primary School and Chen Tuan Experimental School in Nanhu Town, also participated in the event offline through the cloud.

Since last year, Rizhao Art Museum has innovated and created the "Photosynthesis of Art" public aesthetic education volunteer service project, extending a series of rich aesthetic education resources to "outside the museum", benefiting rural primary schools with relatively weak teachers, and "sowing" excellent traditional culture such as kites, black pottery, and green landscapes to rural campuses by setting up "poetic Chinese colors" theme courses. At present, it has covered the Juxian area, and the project has been rated as "Rizhao Cultural Tourism Public Service Brand".

This year, the theme of the aesthetic education activity has been expanded to a series of courses called "I Paint with Masters" on the basis of last year, carefully selecting paintings by Western masters such as Van Gogh, Keith Haring, Giacometti, Picasso, etc., to deliver modern art to the countryside in a more diverse way, hoping to arouse children's imagination and creativity and protect their inner innocence.

"The purpose of these courses is not to let children draw like masters, but to let children understand the human history of a specific period through different experiences, enrich their artistic horizons, enlighten their thinking, and enrich their perspectives on the world. Qin Mingxuan said that this year, the "Photosynthesis of Art" plan entered 6 remote rural primary schools in Donggang District to carry out public aesthetic education volunteer service activities in the form of "museum-school co-construction".

In Qin Mingxuan's view, what impressed her most during the weeks-long "photosynthesis of art" was not the presentation of her works, but the sincerity and change. "For the children, it may not be possible to really understand the creations of these masters yet, but seeing them go from the initial nervousness to the smiles and relaxation on their faces is the most meaningful thing. ”
