After Hu Hongjun, who has moved to the mainland in recent years, went to Guangzhou at the end of January this year to participate in the "Lunar New Year Golden Melody Concert", when he returned to Hong Kong, Customs officers found more than 100 heated cigarette cartridges in his coat and luggage at the Kowloon High Speed Rail Station. The case was heard at the Kowloon City Court today, and Mr Wu was not represented by Mr Choi Siu-sing who pleaded guilty.
The judge accepted the written plea of the defendant Hu Hongjun that the defendant had purchased e-cigarette heating equipment and e-cigarettes for his own use, and that the purchase of the relevant products was not illegal in the Mainland, and that it was not prohibited in Hong Kong before the legislative amendments.
Although lack of legal knowledge or misunderstanding is not a defence, having regard to the circumstances in question, the quantity of the heated cigarettes was for personal use and the defendant had no previous criminal conviction record, he pleaded guilty in his first plea today and was deducted from his guilty plea in three parts, with a penalty of $5,000 and a fine to be paid within three days.
