The 2,000-ton marine scientific research teaching support ship of Tongji University can realize intelligent ship functions such as autonomous navigation in open water, assisted berthing and unberthing, remote control, ship energy efficiency monitoring and fault diagnosis. At the same time, it can be equipped with operational ROVs (underwater remote-controlled robots) and multiple container-type shipborne laboratories to adapt to diverse scientific research tasks and cross-domain collaborative operations, integrating scientific research and investigation functions such as marine geology, marine chemistry, and marine biology.
After completion, it will be used for the scientific investigation voyages, offshore engineering construction tasks and students' marine internships of the marine discipline and other units of Tongji University, providing a solid guarantee for marine scientific research and the training of marine-related professionals.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, Li Dong, Chief Engineer of CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd., Li Weilin, Deputy Director of China Ship Research and Design Center, Jian Zhixiang, Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and Dean of the School of Ocean and Earth Sciences of Tongji University, and Shi Zhenming, Vice President of Tongji University, attended and delivered speeches respectively. The ship was designed by China Ship Research and Design Center, a subsidiary of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, and built by CSSC Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding Co., Ltd.
