Mai Yuetong, a student majoring in social culture and art at Huaqiang Vocational School:

In a training room at Huaqiang Vocational and Technical School in Shenzhen, the sound of keyboard tapping and the fluorescence of a computer screen weave together to create a tense and orderly picture. This is the "training ground" for Mak Yuetong and her teammates to prepare for the aviation service competition of the National Vocational Skills Competition. The clock on the wall ticks, and every second records her steps towards her dreams.

In September 2023, in the National Vocational College Skills Competition (Secondary Vocational Group), Mai Yuetong led her teammates to represent Shenzhen and broke through from 53 teams across the country and won the first prize in the "Aviation Service" competition. This student majoring in social culture and art, who started from scratch, has become a "dark horse" that has broken through in the national arena. The story of Mai Yuetong is also a vivid portrayal of Shenzhen's young people who have the courage to challenge and keep forging ahead.

"Don't be afraid of failure, do what you want"

On the eve of the "May Day" in 2023, Mai Yuetong received a message from Minister Wu of the school's professional department, encouraging her to participate in the upcoming National Vocational Skills Competition Aviation Service Competition. "My first reaction when I received the news was shock, I didn't expect that I might be exposed to this kind of competition. ”

In addition to the basic knowledge of civil aviation theory, it is also necessary to carry out practical skills training, and use the role of aviation service professional positions to focus on the core skills and comprehensive abilities such as air booking, check-in, security check, customer complaint handling, and aviation etiquette display. As a student majoring in social culture and arts, the field of aviation services is unknown to Mak Yuet-tung. She weighed the possible gains and losses repeatedly. Participating in the competition meant that she had to compete against many aviation service students, and it required a lot of time and energy to train, which would have an impact on her studies and daily life. At the same time, she worries about whether she will be able to handle the pressure of the competition and whether she will be able to stand out from the competition.

After much deliberation, a strong desire emerged in Mak Yuet-tung's heart, her desire to challenge herself, to explore her potential in uncharted territory. She recalls the encouragement of her parents and teachers, "Don't be afraid of failure, do what you want." She realized that this was not just a competition, but also an opportunity to grow, an opportunity to prove herself.

A new "leap forward"

In May 2023, through the internal selection, Mak Yuet Tung and two other students formed a team to represent the school. Soon after, it passed the provincial competition and became the representative team of Shenzhen, and made every effort to prepare for the national competition in September.

Every day, Mak Yuetong and her teammates started a new day of closed training in the early morning sunshine. At 8 o'clock, they sat in front of the computer on time, facing the dense aviation knowledge question bank, and started the day's study. With 500 questions and 10 sets of papers, their goal is to improve the accuracy rate to a perfect 100%. Time passed quietly with the dance of the tip of the pen, and in the blink of an eye, it was already two hours later. This is followed by code entry. This requires the service staff to memorize the booking code, and to be fast in typing and responsive. The security check and etiquette training after the lunch break are a challenge to the coordination and aesthetics of the body. Mak and her teammates practiced over and over again until every movement was standard and smooth.

Mai Yuetong recalled, "The training intensity was very high, and I often sat in front of the computer and practiced all day, writing code one by one, typing on the keyboard until my hands cramped, usually starting at 8 a.m. and returning home at 9 p.m." "It's a race against time and a test of will. Even when I was lying in bed, I was constantly replaying the training scene of the day in my mind, thinking about how to improve and how to improve, "Sometimes I dream of typing code." ”

In the last two weeks before the competition, training was in full swing. Mak Yuetong and her teammates almost entered a state of "devilish training", from morning to night, seven days a week. "At that time, we were the most painful and tormented, there was a lot of pressure, sometimes I felt abnormal when I read a normal word, and the correct rate of doing the questions was greatly reduced, and everyone's emotions were on the verge of collapse. At this time, as the team leader, Mai Yuetong has become the emotional regulator of the team, not only to manage their own training, but also to organize and supervise their teammates to maintain the team's morale and self-confidence.

In the intense training life, Mai Yuetong and her teammates joked that they were "monkey sailing": "Just like the monkeys in Mount Emei go wild, we see a way to release pressure." In fact, the first impression of Mai Yuetong in life is always gentle, quiet, and generous, which does not match the image of a monkey at all, and this humorous spice has also become an outlet for her to vent her emotions, "It's good to sleep in case of trouble." ”

"Opened a new door in life"

Jingbao reporter learned that the National Vocational College Skills Competition is a national first-class competition jointly organized by the Ministry of Education and the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security and other 35 ministries and commissions. And it is no accident that Huaqiang Vocational School was able to win the gold medal in this national competition. For a long time, the school has focused on cultivating modern professionals with "excellent skills", and encouraged students to actively participate in various skill competitions during school.

Mak Yuetong recalled that because she and her teammates were zero-based, the tutor drove them to the airport in a car, not only to strengthen the details of training skills, but also to pay attention to their physical and mental health. "The teachers always pay attention to our condition, arrange relaxation activities for us, and strictly control our light diet. Thanks to the excellent training environment provided by the school and the meticulous guidance of the tutors, we were able to complete this difficult task. ”

Talking about the "devilish" closed training before the game, Mai Yuetong smiled: "I miss it a lot, I really want to do it again." She is most grateful to the teachers and family who encouraged and supported her to participate in the competition, "It was like opening a new door in my life, and I found that I still have such potential." ”

For the future, Mak Yuetong is full of hope. She is preparing for the next independent enrollment and continues to deepen her studies in the service industry or management industry.
