What is Flood Season?
Floods in rivers and lakes are clearly concentrated in the course of the year, and flood disasters are prone to occur. Due to the geographical location of each river and the different high water seasons, the length and timing of the flood season are also different.

What are the types of flood seasons?
According to the different seasons and causes of floods, they can generally be divided into four flood seasons: (1) the rising water period mainly caused by heavy rainfall in summer is called the flood season; (2) the rising water period mainly caused by heavy rain (or strong rain) in autumn is called the autumn flood season; (3) the flood rising period caused by the blocking and thawing of ice in the river channel in winter and spring is called the flood season; (4) the rising water period mainly caused by the melting of icebergs in the northern river source or the frozen ice sheet in the upper reaches in spring, and the rising water period generated by the rainy season at the turn of spring and summer in the south is called the spring flood season.

How do I determine the date of flooding?
The flood date refers to the start date of the flood season in the current year. Considering the factors of heavy rain and flood, the flood date is determined by two flood indicators: rainfall and water level. The rainfall index is characterized by the coverage area of the rainfall area with a cumulative rainfall of more than 50 mm for three consecutive days. The water level index is characterized by the measured water level of the flood representative station. The representative station of flood inflow refers to the hydrological (position) station located in the river (river) section of the flood control task, which is representative of the region and usually occurs earlier.

What is the flood standard?
Taking into account the pattern of heavy rainfall and flooding in the mainland, the multi-year average flood date determined according to the flood entry standard should be coordinated with the current flood prevention work. The flood entry standard starts from March 1 every year, and when the flood index meets one of the following conditions, the day can be determined as the flood date. 1. The coverage area of the rainfall area with a cumulative rainfall of more than 50 mm for three consecutive days reaches 150,000 square kilometers; If the warning water level of the representative station changes, the latest indicator will be used.
