This summer is just around the corner. This means that the interior of a car parked outdoors will be very hot. But that may not last long, as Hyundai is working on the Nano Cooling Film, which was originally announced last summer. It has been called a "revolutionary window film" and its internal cooling performance is far superior to that of traditional insulating paper.

To demonstrate its thermal insulation performance in real-world scenarios, Hyundai has applied the film to 70 customer vehicles in Lahore, Pakistan. While this may sound like a strange test site, Hyundai noted that traditional window insulation paper is banned there due to safety reasons, where temperatures can exceed 50 degrees Celsius each summer.

While the test in Pakistan has only just begun, Hyundai said previous tests "found that the Nano Cooling Film reduced the temperature near the driver's head by up to 10.98 degrees Celsius compared to traditional insulating paper, and by as much as 12.33 degrees Celsius compared to the same car without insulating paper." The Nano Cooling Film was even more effective in reducing the temperature of the interior surface, making the dashboard panel near the driver's knee 15.38 degrees Celsius cooler than a vehicle with regular insulation paper and 22 degrees Celsius lower than a vehicle without thermal paper.

The latest round of testing is designed to ensure the quality and ability of the Nano Cooling Film to withstand real-world conditions. This may be one of the last tests, as Hyundai says that in the future this Nano Cooling Film will enter mass production.

While Hyundai didn't mention a timeline, the South Korean car group said the Nano Cooling Film can effectively block external heat while also allowing internal heat to escape. As Hyundai explains, "The outer layer of this film radiates heat from the mid-infrared wavelength inside the car to the outside, while the inner two layers reflect the incident heat from the near-infrared wavelength, reducing the total heat reaching the interior of the car." Hyundai also notes that Nano Cooling Film can be used in combination with traditional thermal insulation paper for better thermal insulation.
