Founded in 2019, Xiong'an Innovation Research Institute is a new scientific research institution jointly established by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Hebei Provincial Government. At the beginning of construction, due to the lack of a suitable site, Xiong'an New Area provided a new pedestrian street in Xiongxian County to the institute as a temporary office space.
At present, there are six research units, including the communication photonic integrated chip laboratory, the cognitive intelligence laboratory, and the micro-nano sensing technology laboratory.
Walking into the cognitive intelligence laboratory, Huang Wuling, deputy director of the laboratory, was leading the researchers to do experiments, the simulated traffic lights of the device were flashing brightly, and the whiteboard behind him was full of writing.
As an expert in the field of intelligent transportation, Huang Wuling, inspired by "going to Xiong'an", joined the Xiong'an Innovation Research Institute in March 2022. Since then, five other researchers from well-known universities at home and abroad have joined the team. Nearly 1,000 square meters of cognitive intelligence laboratory has been built, which can simulate various traffic scenarios.
In the past two years, the laboratory has built an experimental platform for intelligent transportation and unmanned systems. Faced with topics such as digital roads and holographic intersections, vehicle-road coordination, and autonomous driving, Huang Wuling and his colleagues used algorithms as "sharp tools" to solve key problems in the industry in a line of code, and gradually found the implementation path for the application of research results. They also applied the research results of autonomous driving systems to the field of intelligent manufacturing, and exported the "Xiong'an experience" to the outside world.
In the communication photonics integrated chip laboratory, researchers are sitting around the console, testing the performance indicators of an optoelectronic device the size of a melon seed. Wang Wenting, director of the laboratory, picked up this "big" device with tweezers and said that our research is closely related to daily life, such as mobile communications, autonomous driving, etc., can be applied to our technology.
More than a year ago, after leaving the University of California, Los Angeles as a postdoctoral fellow, Wang Wenting chose to join the Xiong'an Innovation Research Institute, and then settled in Xiong'an and became a "new Xiong'an person". "I decided to come to Xiong'an before leaving the station, firstly, the research team here has mature technical accumulation, and secondly, Xiong'an has a lot of scientific and technological innovation support policies, which is full of sincerity. ”
