The origin and history of China's Space Day
The origin of China's Space Day can be traced back to October 15, 2003, when the Shenzhou V manned spacecraft was successfully launched, and astronaut Yang Liwei went to space, realizing the Chinese's thousand-year-old dream of flying to the sky. In 2004, at the Second Session of the 10th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Huang Chunping, then commander-in-chief of the Long March-2F launch vehicle, and Qi Fayun, then chief designer of the "Shenzhou" spacecraft, jointly wrote a proposal on the establishment of the "China Space Festival". In April 2013, during the first session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), members of the CPPCC Association for Science and Technology proposed the establishment of "China Space Day" and submitted a proposal to the conference.
On March 8, 2016, the State Council replied to the approval of the establishment of "China Space Day": it agreed to establish April 24 as "China Space Day" from 2016 onwards. The purpose of establishing China Space Day is to publicize China's consistent purpose of peaceful use of outer space, vigorously promote the spirit of aerospace, scientifically popularize aerospace knowledge, stimulate the enthusiasm of the whole nation for exploration and innovation, and sing the main theme of "exploring the vast universe, developing the aerospace industry, and building a space power".
