After Hong Kong's return to China in 1997, many felt that Mr. Fok Ying Tung would be the biggest winner in the business world. But for him, making money has long been no longer his goal.
In his later years, Mr. Fok Yingdong devoted almost all his efforts to the construction of Nansha, Guangzhou. Nansha became the area with the most investment and the largest scale in his later years, and it was also the place he was most involved in.
He sees the special value of Nansha as "an ideal hub for cities west of the Pearl River to connect with Hong Kong and overseas", and wants to build Nansha into a modern coastal city with a deep-water port as the center and comprehensive development of transportation, industrial processing and tourism services.

In the first ten years of development and construction, the Fok Ying Tung Foundation's investment in Nansha reached more than 2 billion Hong Kong dollars.
Nansha, from a small town in Guangzhou, has become the only state-level new area in Guangdong Province and the China (Guangdong) Pilot Free Trade Zone, and the "Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" has given Nansha the historical mission of building a demonstration zone for comprehensive cooperation between Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao.
