The 600MW demonstration fast reactor project is a milestone in the development of the mainland in the field of nuclear energy, which is not only a key node in the mainland's three-step development strategy of "thermal reactor-fast reactor-fusion reactor", but also has far-reaching strategic significance. Boron-shielded graphite plays a crucial role in this project. As a special kind of nuclear-grade graphite, boron-containing shielding graphite is a key core shielding material for fast reactors. At present, the technology of adding boron carbide to graphite products in China is blank.

A few days ago, the Gansu Provincial Department of Industry and Information Technology, the Provincial Department of Science and Technology, and the Provincial Department of Finance jointly issued the document "Boron-containing Graphite Products for Fangda Carbon Fast Reactor", which was awarded the third prize of Gansu Provincial Industrial Excellent New Product in 2023.

After more than 10 years of technical research, Fangda Carbon has built a demonstration production line of boron-containing graphite, and successfully developed and large-scale production of boron-containing shielded graphite for 1# and 2# reactors of the 600MW demonstration fast reactor project. In June 2021, the boron-containing graphite produced by Fangda Carbon reached the domestic advanced level after the review and approval of the expert group organized by the Gansu Provincial Commission of Industry and Information Technology, and the new product was registered for the record;In December 2021, the boron-containing shielded graphite produced by Fangda Carbon was selected into the "Recommended Catalogue of High-tech Private Enterprises and Products", and in November 2023, the "Boron-containing Graphite for Fast Neutron Reactor" developed by Fangda Carbon won the "Excellent Product Award" of the 25th China International High-tech Achievement Fair.

High-tech products need to be backed by quality.
