From a petty official who was praised by the people as "timely rain" for his righteousness and wealth, to "Hu Baoyi" who led the Liangshan heroes to revolt and contend with the imperial court, and then to the Chuzhou pacification envoy who finally decided to accept Zhao'an but ended up tragically, Song Jiang's life trajectory was full of ups and downs and full of tragedy.
Historically, in the last years of the Northern Song Dynasty, the society was in turmoil, and the people were struggling to make a living. Song Jiang was just an ordinary petty official at first, but he was loved by the people because of his chivalrous deeds. But the good times didn't last long, and by chance, Song Jiang was sent to Jiangzhou. coincided with the fact that the Liangshanbo rebel army was recruiting, Song Jiang joined it, and with his performance of wisdom and bravery, he became the leader of the heroes of Liangshan, "Hu Baoyi".
Under the leadership of Song Jiang, the heroes of Liangshan fought successively, and fought back and forth with the army of the imperial court. In order to quell the rebellion, the imperial court decided to implement the policy of recruiting security. After careful consideration, Song Jiang decided that instead of continuing to fight, it was better to accept Zhao'an and seek a good home for his brothers. However, the court's recruitment was not sincere, but a hidden murderous motive. In the end, although Song Jiang was named Wude Doctor and appointed as the pacification envoy of Chuzhou, this official position was actually an empty title.
Although the pacification envoy of Chuzhou was nominally the highest military governor of the locality, it was actually divided into two situations. One is that officials of the fourth rank or above are concurrently concurrent, and this kind of appeasement often has the right to "act cheaply" and hold real power because of their higher official positions. And Song Jiang, the pacification envoy appointed by the five-grade martial arts doctor, is a completely fictitious position, controlled by local officials, and has no real power at all.
It is worth mentioning that there is no such character as Song Jiang in history, and many plots in "Water Margin" are fictional. The tragedy of Song Jiang lies in the fact that although he has a chivalrous heart of righteousness and squandering money, when facing the powerful ruling class, he has no power to return to heaven and can only compromise and retreat. He accepted Zhao'an's decision, which seemed to be a way out for his brothers, but in fact he fell into the trap of the imperial court. In the end, he not only failed to protect the heroes of Liangshan, but even took himself into it and became an outcast in the hands of the imperial court.
Song Jiang's life has both admirable chivalrous deeds and regrettable compromises. His story teaches us that a powerful ruling class cannot compete with it alone. Only by uniting can we create a better life for the people themselves. Although Song Jiang failed, the chivalrous spirit embodied in him is always worth learning and carrying forward.
