Once, during breakfast, the instructor informed them that Comrade Ulanfu was coming to give a political report to everyone today.
Wang Shukui and the other soldiers hurried to finish breakfast and gathered in the playground.
Soon, the political commissar of Hanfeng of the Military and Political Academy came with a big tall chief. Everyone stood up together, and Political Commissar Han Feng introduced that this chief was Comrade Ulanfu.
When Ulanfu just said the first sentence "Hello comrades", Wang Shukui was very surprised.
He thought to himself, why did Comrade Ulanfu speak with such a familiar accent, exactly the same as the accent of his hometown. He didn't expect that a poor area like his hometown Tumochuan would have a senior chief!
This is the scene when Wang Shukui met Ulanfu for the first time!
Half a year has passed at the Military and Political Academy, and Wang Shukui has not only learned cultural knowledge, but has also become much more mature politically.
On this day, the instructor called him to the company headquarters and said that he had an important task.
After Wang Shukui went, the instructor said to him, "Wang Shukui, are you willing to be a guard?"
Wang Shukui replied without the slightest hesitation: "As long as it is revolutionary work, I am willing to do anything!"
The instructor said to Wang Shukui with a serious face that he would not be asked to be a guard for the regiment commander and brigade commander, but for Comrade Ulanfu to be a guard.
The instructor emphasized that this is a very important job, and it must not be sloppy!
After Wang Shukui heard this, he couldn't help but get nervous.
The instructor said that he used to be Comrade Ulanfu's guard. Subsequently, the instructor told Wang Shukui about his own situation and experience as a security guard.
In order to become a security guard for senior leading cadres, the prerequisite is to be "politically reliable, quick to react, astute, and accurate with rifles."
Wang Shukui meets the conditions for these points.
When receiving the task, Wang Shukui made a guarantee: "I promise to complete the task assigned to me by my superiors, and I would rather sacrifice myself than ensure the safety of the chief." ”

Then, the instructor said that the company would also select one to be a guard for Comrade Ulanfu. He wanted Wang Shukui to recommend one.
Wang Shukui immediately replied that the fellow who joined the army with him was very reliable and could go with him.
In this way, Wang Shukui successfully became Ulanfu's guard.
In order to leave a good impression on the chief, Wang Shukui asked a comrade who could shave his head to help him cut his hair, and took off all his clothes and washed them.
Early the next morning, Wang Shukui and his fellow villagers went to Wulanfu's residence at the foot of Mantou Mountain.
Walking into Ulanfu's office, Wang Shukui saw that Ulanfu was seriously reviewing the documents, and when he saw them coming, he quickly put down the documents in hand and asked them enthusiastically: "Are you tired?"
Wang Shukui replied: "I'm not tired." ”
Ulanfu personally took the kettle and poured water for the two of them, and he enthusiastically asked Wang Shukui, "How old are you this year?", "Who is in the family?", "When did you participate in the revolution?" and so on.
Wang Shukui answered one by one.
At the same time, Wang Shukui was also thinking that the chief was a senior cadre who participated in the revolution in the early days, and he had also been to the Soviet Union and came from Yan'an, but he did not have the frame of a big official at all, and he was so kind to being a soldier, which was really amazing.

Ulanfu was almost assassinated, but he was calm
In the winter of 1946, Ulanfu received a notice to go to Wangye Temple (Ulanhot) to prepare for the establishment of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Government.
Wang Shukui walked with him.
At that time, the weather was very cold, and at first the group sat in a small car, although it was very shabby, but fortunately it could still shelter from the wind and cold.
Unexpectedly, a few days after walking, the car's water tank was directly frozen.
The group had no choice but to ride forward. Wang Shukui saw that Ulanfu was wearing an old coat, which could not keep out the cold wind, so he thought of buying a new fur coat from the herdsmen for the chief to wear.
When he said this idea, Ulanfu said: "You don't need to buy it, I still brought this coat from Yan'an, you can still wear it, it's a pity to throw it away, it's much better than when the Red Army climbed the snowy mountains." ”
Seeing that Wang Shukui was still twisting, Ulanfu directly shook the reins in his hand and said, "Come, let's race together to see whose horse runs in front." ”
Wang Shukui's style of strictly demanding himself with the spirit of revolutionary optimism in difficult times left a deep impression on Wang Shukui.
After arriving at Wangye Temple, although the living conditions here are better than those in Zhangjiakou, the situation here is also more complicated.
Wang Shukui said that at that time, there were many bandits and Kuomintang spies left behind during the Japanese puppet period, and they operated near their homes and threw stones into the yard.
As a guard soldier, Wang Shukui is extremely cautious every day.
One day, Ulanfu went out for a meeting, and by the time the meeting ended, it was late. That night, there was no moon in the sky, and it was pitch black.
Ulanfu did not take the car and walked back to his residence. Wang Shukui walked in front to explore the way, and his fellow countryman accompanied Ulanfu.
In order to deal with the unexpected situation, Wang Shukui and his fellow villagers held 20 pistols and were vigilant about the surrounding situation. After returning to the courtyard safely, Wang Shukui's hanging heart could be regarded as letting go.
Later, Wang Shukui caught a spy, and after interrogation, the spy confided that that night, he lurked behind a big tree and tried to assassinate Ulanfu.
But when he saw that the guards around him were very vigilant, he didn't dare to make a move.
When Wang Shukui reported the matter to Ulanfu, Ulanfu's expression was still so calm and quiet.
He kindly said to Wang Shukui: "To do revolution, you can't think about personal safety. Afraid of danger, how can we accomplish the tasks assigned to us by the party? The purpose of the bad guys is to drive us away, so we will go-for-tat with them. ”
At that time, there was no cook in the courtyard, and Wang Shukui was responsible for cooking. Ulanfu often told them that life should be hard and simple.
Wang Shukui recalled that every morning they drank some porridge and baked two steamed buns, had a simple meal at noon, and ate noodles in the evening.
Once, Wang Shukui steamed a few steamed buns and made a stew with potatoes, cabbage and tofu, and while eating them, Wu Lanfu praised and said: "Very good, I didn't expect Wang Shukui's cooking skills to be really good!"
At that time, Wulanfu's work was very busy, and Wang Shukui wanted to supplement the chief's nutrition.
On this day, Ulanfu went out for a meeting, accompanied by Wang Shukui's fellow countrymen. Wang Shukui cooks at home.
He hurried down to the street to buy a chicken, and at lunchtime, Ulanfu saw the chicken. Ulanfu asked, "Where did the chickens come from?"
Wang Shukui said the reason.
Ulanfu said earnestly:
"I know the kindness of the two of you, our lives are much better now than when we were in the Daqingshan guerrillas and when we were in Yan'an. Due to the economic blockade imposed by the Kuomintang reactionaries, Chairman Mao and the leading comrades of the Party Central Committee lived a very frugal life. Don't do it again in the future. ”
After saying that, Ulanfu called all the personnel to eat the chicken together.
Wang Shukui later said that the chief was so strict with himself that he first thought of the leaders of the Party Central Committee and the comrades of the army, not himself. This incident taught me deeply.
One day in 1952, Ulanfu called Wang Shukui and said: "You have been working with me for many years, and now we want to build a new China, and we need to train cadres with culture and professional knowledge, you go and study again, and become a cadre in the future!"
Wang Shukui left Ulanfu with reluctance.
In 1988, Wang Shukui went to meet Ulanfu. After the meeting, Ulanfu asked Wang Shukui how old he was, and Wang Shukui replied, "I am 60 years old." ”
Wulanfu smiled and said: "Look at it, Wang Shukui is 60 years old, and he became a grandfather, okay, you were 18 years old when you followed me." ”
Wang Shukui corrected: "19 years old. ”
Ulanfu was happy and said:
"I followed me at the age of 19, and decades have passed. Now we are all old, but the Chinese revolution has succeeded, the working people have become the real masters, our country is now strong, no one dares to bully us anymore, and the mission of our older generation is handed over to the young people. ”
After talking for a while, Wang Shukui was leaving. Ulanfu stopped him and said, "Back then, you steamed steamed buns for us and made stews, will I treat you to a meal today?"
In this way, Wang Shukui accompanied Ulanfu for a meal.
A few months after Wang Shukui left, the news of Ulanfu's death suddenly came. Wang Shukui is extremely sad for the loss of such an excellent leader!
