National defense education for the whole people is a basic project for building and consolidating national defense and a strong people's army, and is an effective way to carry forward the spirit of patriotism and enhance the national defense awareness of the whole people. The current National Defense Education Law was adopted at the 21st Session of the Standing Committee of the Ninth National People's Congress in 2001 and revised in 2018. In the new era, many new changes have taken place in the international and domestic environment, which have put forward new and higher requirements for national defense education for the whole people, and it is necessary to revise and improve the national defense education law in a timely manner. On 23 April, the draft revision of the National Defense Education Law was submitted to the Ninth Session of the Standing Committee of the 14 th National People's Congress (NPC) for initial deliberation. The main contents of the revised draft include: clarifying the connotation and positioning of national defense education, clarifying the guiding ideology of national defense education, clarifying the leadership system and work responsibilities of national defense education, improving the national defense education system in schools, expanding the scope and channels of national defense education in society, and strengthening the guarantee of national defense education.
