However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is adamantly opposed to this. On 20 April, he warned that sanctions must not be imposed on the IDF. He stressed that Israel would use all necessary means to oppose these sanctions and defend Israel's interests.
At the same time, Israeli Defense Minister Gallant lavished praise on the Yehuda battalion. He warned that even if the sanctions were only against the battalion, it would cast a heavy shadow over the actions of the IDF and have a negative impact on the entire defense apparatus.
The U.S. investigation into the Yehuda camp dates back to before the escalation of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. The U.S. reportedly began an investigation into the unit in December 2022 after it was revealed to have used violence against Palestinian civilians. One of the incidents, which resulted in the death of a 78-year-old Palestinian-American, sparked widespread international condemnation.
Although the Israeli military withdrew the Yehuda battalion from the West Bank in late 2022, it did not take steps to punish members for alleged human rights violations.
