Pulse has established an industrial chain climate action fund to help the green and high-quality development of the industry

author:Chinese Cuisine

On the eve of Earth Day 2023, Green Pioneer Pulse took the lead in achieving carbon neutrality in all production plants in China's beverage industry. This year, Pulse once again became an industry leader, announcing the establishment of the "Protecting the Earth" Industrial Chain Climate Action Fund, which plans to invest more than 30 million yuan in the next two years to accelerate the carbon reduction process in the upstream and downstream of the industrial chain and lead the green transformation of the food industry.

Zhang Jinze, Chairman of the China Beverage Industry Association, said: "The release of the 'Protecting the Earth' Industrial Chain Climate Action Fund has undoubtedly set a benchmark for green and high-quality development for the industry. The leading role of Pulse is not only reflected in its own green exploration, but also in the promotion of the green transformation of the entire industry, providing strong support for the food and beverage industry to accelerate the cultivation of new quality productivity and promote new industrialization and high-quality development. ”

"Accelerator" for green transformation of the industrial chain

Green development is the background color of high-quality development, and new quality productivity itself is green productivity. The 2024 government work report clearly states that it is necessary to promote the optimization and upgrading of industrial and supply chains, and promote the high-end, intelligent and green transformation of traditional industries.

As a "leader" in the green development of the beverage industry, Pulse will help upstream and downstream partners in the industrial chain accelerate low-carbon capacity building through financial support and technical guidance, promote the use of green energy, optimize product packaging and adopt green logistics, and continue to advocate green consumption and circular economy.

This measure will not only improve the overall decarbonization efficiency of the entire value chain, but also hope to create a model of a green and low-carbon industrial chain. "We hope to play a leading role in leading the entire industry to invest in green carbon reduction and high-quality development, improve quality with green, speed up with quality, accelerate the formation of a green and low-carbon industrial chain, and promote the whole industry to steadily move towards the '3060' dual carbon goal." Gao Yueqiu, general manager of Danone China Beverages, said.

Last year, Pulse joined hands with upstream and downstream partners to launch the "Protect the Earth" carbon reduction initiative, which was a key step in external empowerment. So far, 4 major preform supplier factories have been helped by Pulse, and finally achieved carbon neutrality by reducing carbon emissions from production and operation. In addition, 12 upstream and downstream companies have joined the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) and have passed the 1.5°C pathway certification, 32 companies have established a corporate greenhouse gas inventory mechanism, and 64 companies have clearly set greenhouse gas emission targets.

Boost the food industry to accelerate the formation of a "green chain"

In the past 20 years, Pulse has always insisted on energy saving, water saving, plastic reduction, waste reduction, use of green energy, use of environmentally friendly packaging materials, and promote recycling. In recent years, Pulse has further increased its investment, taking green production and digital quality manufacturing as the "wings", and taking the lead in exploring a new path for green and intelligent development.

In 2023, Pulse's Wuhan plant was successfully selected as one of the first batch of 5G fully connected factories in Hubei. This is also the first application of "5G+ intelligent control system (MES)" in the beverage industry. In the same year, Pulse Xi'an Plant was awarded the title of "China's Industrial Carbon Peak 'Leader'" by the China Federation of Industrial Economics, becoming one of the first two enterprises in the beverage industry to receive this honor.

Ma Jun, Director of the Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE), said: "Danone has been working on supply chain empowerment and data disclosure for many years, and we hope that the 'Planet Together' fund set up by Danone Pulse will further promote more suppliers to achieve energy conservation and emission reduction, and publicly disclose greenhouse gas emission data, so that all sectors of society can understand the achievements of the brand in leading the low-carbon transformation of the supply chain." Since 2019, Danone has been ranked No. 1 in the food and beverage industry in the CITI Index for Green Supply Chain released by IPE for five consecutive years.

One of the core pillars of Danone's new sustainability strategy, "Protecting Nature and Regenerating Nature". In this context, the establishment of the "Caring for the Earth" Industrial Chain Climate Action Fund is not only an important exploration of Danone China's carbon reduction in the whole value chain, but also an important step to help the entire industry and society move towards a sustainable and beautiful future.
