On March 27, 1951, during the critical period of the Fourth Campaign, the US Army's offensive became more and more frenzied, and on this day a tank company and an infantry company were assembled to launch a fierce attack on our army's Qifeng Mountain position, in an attempt to take the position in one fell swoop by using the combat method of combining infantry and tank.
How to resist the US tanks? This problem was definitely a difficult problem even in the volunteer army units at that time, especially the combat method of combining infantry and tanks was even more tricky. At that time, Lei Baosen led nine fighters to garrison the 299 heights, at the forefront of the entire position, and the weapons and ammunition in his hands were very limited, only one rocket and a dozen anti-tank grenades.
After the tank company of the US army appeared in Rebaosen's field of vision, he appeared very calm and kept observing the enemy's situation. He noticed that the enemy seemed to have made a mistake, the tanks were moving too fast, causing the infantry behind to not be able to keep up, and there was a short distance between the two.
There is a narrow area on the road where the American tanks are moving, and if a tank can be blown up here, it will inevitably block the enemy's way. When the enemy tank in front of the enemy army reached a narrow place, he decisively fired a rocket to blow up the tank's tracks, and the paralyzed tank immediately blocked the way, so that the tanks and armored vehicles that followed closely behind were forced to stop.
At the same time, some fighters, in accordance with the tasks assigned by Rebaosen in advance, rushed over with anti-tank grenades and completely blew up the first tank. In the same way, Lei Baosen led people to blow up the tanks and armored vehicles behind. By the time the enemy infantry arrived, Lei Baosen had already led the soldiers to retreat, and in this way, he used the fleeting fighter plane to eliminate the American tank company.
Subsequently, Lei Baosen was ordered to lead the soldiers into the main battlefield and fought to the death with the American troops face to face. This time, there was no fault in the enemy's offensive, and a powerful network of fire covered the position defended by Lei Baosen, and 7 of the 9 fighters in the squad were killed, and they fell into a situation of running out of ammunition and food.
At this time, Lei Baosen decisively gave the order, and he was responsible for leading away the enemy troops, creating an opportunity for the two fighters to break through, and then opened fire on the enemy troops who rushed up, leading them to run farther and farther. Lei Baosen was soon forced to the cliff, and there was no chance of survival, and he did not want to be a prisoner, so he jumped off the cliff for the rest of his life.
Lei Bao Senfu had a great life, and this jump was not sacrificed, and was discovered by the local Korean people and sent to the field hospital for treatment in time. Although Lei Baosen was injured, fortunately it was not life-threatening, and then under the arrangement of the field hospital, he was sent back to China for recuperation with other seriously wounded people.
Although he could return to his old unit, he did not do so in the end, because he felt that he could no longer fight, and that going back would be a drag on the troops, so he returned to his hometown and worked as a cleaner in the guest house while taking care of his elderly adoptive parents.
Happy old age
What he didn't know was that after the two soldiers escaped, they told the situation at that time, and the head of the unit attached great importance to it and immediately sent people to look for it, but he never found any trace of Lei Baosen. After Li Yaowen, the political commissar of the 26th Army, learned of this, he thought that if he could not find the body, it meant that he was still alive, and he never gave up the search.
Unexpectedly, this trick really worked, and he really found Lei Baosen, who had been "missing" for a long time.
