Microfilming technology is widely used in the protection of ancient books. In 1985, the National Library Microfilm Reproduction Center was formally established, and the mainland started the large-scale rescue and protection of precious documents using microfilm technology, with more than 40 public libraries participating in it, making great contributions to the regenerative protection and utilization of ancient books.

The Jilin Provincial Library is one of the first batch of microfilm member libraries in the country, and has been carrying out microfilm rescue work for nearly 40 years.

She told reporters that microfilming involves all aspects and needs to go through a series of professional operations such as shooting, processing, cataloguing, copying, and digital transformation. "In my work, I am not only a photographer, but also a printer, a typesetter, a bibliographer, etc., and the corresponding 'model' is the precious ancient books and historical documents in the library. ”

According to reports, microfilm technology has a history of more than 100 years since its invention, and although it is not "cutting-edge", it is stable and reliable. Similar to the science fiction method of "carving words into stone to preserve information", microfiche is preserved longer and more stable than traditional paper and digital storage media.

"In the race against time, this is the most effective means of document preservation that we know and can do. Zheng Shanji said.
