Abandoning BRICS, Argentina applied to join NATO and sought 36.2 billion yuan from China

Argentina's earth-shattering diplomatic reversal: abandoning the BRICS dream, turning to NATO, and reaching out to China for help?

Speaking of the general trend of the world, it will be together for a long time, and it will be divided for a long time. The international situation is often unpredictable. No, Argentina in South America has recently made a big news, which is a big surprise. This country, which was once regarded as a strong candidate for BRICS, suddenly announced that it would abandon its entry into the BRICS, and turned around and submitted an application to NATO, wanting to become NATO's "global partner country". And that's not all, it's really puzzling that Argentina has even spread the news that it wants to seek financial support from China.

Back then, Argentina was a high-spirited country with the ambition to join the BRICS and join other emerging market countries. But now, why has the wind suddenly changed? Is Argentina really planning to abandon the BRICS dream and turn to the arms of NATO? The reason for this is really curious.

Speaking of which, we have to mention the Argentine Minister of Defense. The minister, who is a man of action, submitted his application to the NATO deputy secretary-general, making it clear that Argentina wants to train its troops on the basis of NATO standards. The Argentine presidential palace followed suit, claiming that after becoming a global partner of NATO, it would be able to obtain NATO's technology, equipment, and training support. It seems that Argentina is determined to move closer to NATO.

But then again, is it really wise for Argentina to do this? You know, Argentina is not a rich country right now, and the country's economic situation can be described as stretched. At this time, Argentina has to spend a lot of money to buy American-made F-16 fighters, which undoubtedly adds to the already overburdened finances. What's more, the deal also involves U.S. financing. Although the United States provides part of the funds, it is not gratuitous, and it also needs to be used to purchase American weapons. As a result, Argentina's debt situation will only continue to grow.

What is even more worrying is that by doing so, Argentina seems to be joking with its sovereignty and statehood. Back then, Argentina and Britain fought over the Falklands, and although they lost in the end, the issue of sovereignty over the Falklands has always been a pain in Argentina's heart. Now, Argentina's purchase of American-made F-16 fighter jets that have been resold by Denmark is itself a sign of weakness to Britain and has made the issue of sovereignty over the Falklands even more ambiguous. Such an approach is undoubtedly a joke on the dignity and interests of the country.

So, why did Argentina do this? Is it really for the sake of NATO's technical and equipment support? I'm afraid it's not that simple. There has been speculation that Argentina may have done this to cater to U.S. strategic needs in exchange for U.S. support and assistance. After all, the current international situation is complex and volatile, and if Argentina wants to gain a foothold in this environment, it does need some external support and help.

But then again, is it really worth it for Argentina to do this? Is it really cost-effective to give up its sovereignty and dignity for the sake of that little immediate benefit? Not to mention that Argentina's actions may also affect its relations with other countries. For example, China, as an important partner of Argentina, has always maintained a good cooperative relationship between China and Argentina. But now, Argentina is undoubtedly casting a shadow over Sino-Arab relations by doing so.

Of course, we can't just blame Argentina. After all, every country has its own national conditions and interests. Argentina may have done so out of desperation. But in any case, we hope that Argentina will think carefully about its foreign policy and not sacrifice its long-term interests for the sake of immediate interests.
