The Chief Executive said that the economic and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries has achieved encouraging results, and cooperation in various fields has been continuously strengthened and deepened, thanks to the strong support and promotion of the Central Government, the Ministry of Commerce, the Portuguese-speaking countries and the successive heads of the Permanent Secretariat of the Forum. Forum Macao is an effective co-operation mechanism and a good service platform, which will continue to play an important role in strengthening economic and trade co-operation and people-to-people exchanges between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. At a time when the global economy is undergoing structural transformation, it is all the more important for countries to work together to address challenges through solidarity and mutually beneficial cooperation.
The Chief Executive pointed out that on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macao's return to the motherland, the 6th Ministerial Conference of Forum Macao is of special significance. With Macao as the permanent venue, Forum Macao fully demonstrates the strong support and trust of the Central Government for Macao, as well as the recognition and recognition of Macao by Portuguese-speaking countries as a service platform for commercial and trade co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. The welcome dinner of the VI Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Co-operation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries (Macao) was held this evening (21 April) at the International Convention Centre of the Sports Hall of the Macao East Asian Games. The Politburo member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Li Hongzhong, and the members of the delegations of the Portuguese-speaking countries attended the welcome dinner, during which the Chief Executive, Ho Iat Seng and the Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, spoke.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Executive, Mr Ho Iat Seng, said that Forum Macao has completed twenty years since its creation, and that thanks to the strong support and incessant promotion of the Central Government, the Ministry of Commerce, the Portuguese-speaking Countries and the successive heads of the Permanent Secretariat of Forum Macao, economic and trade cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries has achieved encouraging results, and cooperation in various sectors has been increasingly strengthened and deepened. He stressed that Forum Macau is an efficient cooperation mechanism and a good service platform that has played an important role in strengthening economic and trade cooperation and cultural exchange between China and Portuguese-speaking countries. He recalled that when the world economy is facing profound changes, the most important thing is solidarity, mutually beneficial cooperation and a joint response to challenges.
He added that as the solemn celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and the 25th anniversary of Macau's return to the motherland approaches, the holding of the Sixth Ministerial Conference of Forum Macau is of particular importance. He said that the Forum had found its permanent headquarters in Macau, thus fully validating the Central Government's strong support and confidence in Macau and also the recognition and common affirmation of Portuguese-speaking Countries on Macau's role as a Service Platform for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries. He assured that the Macao SAR Government will remain faithful to its mission of strictly implementing the guidelines issued at the "Two Sessions" of the National People's Congress and the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, fully developing its advantages within the framework of "one country, two systems" and supporting the country in expanding high-quality opening-up to the outside world. He pledged that he will use the Sixth Ministerial Conference of Forum Macao as a starting point to further strengthen the functions of the Sino-Lusophone platform, participate and actively contribute to the implementation of the "Belt and Road" initiative and promote the high-quality development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. He stressed that he will firmly push forward the construction of the Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, develop Macao's role as a platform for connecting China with the outside world and continue to provide better services, so as to foster exchanges and cooperation between Mainland China, Macao and Portuguese-speaking Countries, in order to achieve even more fruitful results.
In his speech, the Minister of Commerce, Wang Wentao, said that, after a gap of eight years, we celebrated the holding of the VI Ministerial Conference of the Forum for Economic and Trade Cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking Countries, meeting in Macau to strengthen friendship and discuss cooperation. On behalf of the Ministry of Commerce of China, he extended a warm welcome to all the guests present and extended his cordial thanks to friends from all sectors for their continued deference and support to the Forum.
Wang Wentao took the opportunity to mention a Chinese proverb "a partnership forged with the right approach defies distance and therefore our friendship is as solid as gold", stressing that since the establishment of Forum Macao, China and Portuguese-speaking Countries have followed the trends of the time focused on peace and development and adhered to the spirit of partnership that values harmony in diversity and solidarity in common efforts, having achieved significant results in the continuous mobilization of the potential for cooperation in diversity, in the deepening and joint implementation of Sino-Lusophone cooperation, for the economic development of the countries participating in the Forum. He added that Macau, in turn, has taken good advantage of the institutional advantages of "One country, two systems", very actively promoting exchanges and cooperation between China and Portuguese-speaking countries in various fields, increasingly strengthening its role as a Sino-Lusophone platform.
The Minister of Commerce said that the changes we are currently witnessing in the world and times are unfolding in an unprecedented way with historical significance, and China is fully pushing forward Chinese-style modernization through high-quality development, which will offer a wide range of opportunities to countries around the world, including Portuguese-speaking countries. He added that as for the future, China is willing to work with Portuguese-speaking countries to promote partnerships and respond to challenges, taking advantage of this Ministerial Conference to raise the level of Sino-Lusophone economic and trade cooperation to a new level, contributing incessantly to achieving the modernization of our countries. The same official said that in this regard, the Chinese Ministry of Commerce will continue to support Macau in developing its role as a Sino-Lusophone platform, deepening exchanges and cooperation with participating countries and regions in order to achieve long-term prosperity and stability for all.
